Cigarettes don't spoil, they just dry out. It will eventually turn to dust, but it doesn't go "bad". They don't lose nicotine. They can be re-hydrated by placing them in a plastic bag with a small chunk of potato or apple.

They expire December of 1996.
Kidding... a better question would be DO they expire. The answer is "No, they don't."
When anything else expires it becomes inedible, moldy, or deteriorates. With cigarettes, they're good as long as they're dry and not moldy. Anything potentially bad (salmonella bacteria or the like) will burn off and die. No food poisoning.
However, if you found some vintage cigarettes, I'd try e-bay before lighting one up or even opening the pack.

I know people who put their ciggarettes in the freezer to keep them from expiring so in that case yes they do expire.
Ofcourse leaving them exposed long enough will cause them to expire at some point.

they don't really expire. It will taste worse, get dry, and burn faster but it will still give you a buzz. If you smoke so little that packs are going stale, you probably wouldn't notice the difference in taste due to stale cigarettes. It should be fine to smoke.

depends you store them in the freezer for a little while it all depends on your taste buds, if you can handle a slightly stale cigarette it would last a while

like any food, they are wrapped in an airtight plastic cover. When that is opened, oxygen can get to the product inside, causing it to spoil sooner.

because the nicotine on the cigarette fades upon being exposed to air.
