A little over a year ago I lent a somewhat significant amount of money and held a car as "insurance of repayment". Well, here I am, without repayment and no idea where to find this @@@ person. I want to get rid of the car to at least make some amends for my financial loss. What do I do?

How do I sell it if it is not in my name?

You can't. You need to get the other party to sign the title over to you and then title it to yourself before you can sell it. Without legal title, you can't even junk it.

If you cannot reach the other party, you'll have to apply for an abandoned title. That will take some time as the state tries to contact the current owner and verify that they have no claim to the vehicle any more. It will also need to be inspected by the police -- VIN check mostly. If the current legal owner doesn't respond or if they release title to you then the state will issue a title in your name.

I did that once in CA and once in TX. Both times took about 6 months to get title in my name.

If he signed the identify through fact the customer and you signed as broking he's formally the owner of the motor vehicle and isn't any longer due any money back. Did you print out a invoice of Sale alongside with signing the identify, and did you have it notorized? consistently a good thank you to verify your lined. in numerous states Kansas, Nebraska, SD, etc.. the place I even have worked as a Finance supervisor for dealerships as quickly as the identify is signed they are the recent proprietor. you ought to consistently save copies of a notorized invoice of sale nonetheless in case he abandons it and not in any respect registers it so the city wont attempt to charge you for any parking tickets etc...

You might look into filing some type of lien, like a mechanic's lien. I just don't know how it works with individuals instead of businesses. You might contact someone at the courthouse to find out.
