Sounds about right, although I have never known anyone to figure it out, but about 4000 BC.
Jesus was born about 4 or 5 BC. Herod the Great died in 2 BC.
So we are looking at on or about 4000 years before Christ.

Bishop Ussher had a simplistic way in which to figure. The problem is when the Bible mentions someone had a child when they were 143 years old, they were not exactly 143 years old. The were 143 plus 5 days or 143 plus 6 weeks or 143 years minus 4 months. Therefore we will not know when the 6000 years has expired until we see the tribulation starting.

Who is Bishop Ussher...an atheist?
To understand the Genesis thesis, you must be an expert in ancient Greek, ancient egyptian, and ancient Hebrew; if you do, you will see that a date is not given for creation in the Bible..
It's not..'in the beginning' it's 'in at the beginning' which can mean anything.

Well....
The Hebrews, who have kept very good track of the descendants of Adam, have always claimed that about 3000 years passed between Adam's creation, and David's birth. (I don't recall the exact number)....that puts creation at 5000 years and change.......
I think that most Hebrews could "beat the bishop" on this one.
I'm not a Christian, or a Jew....just a scholar...
Namaste,

I certainly believe there was a 4004 BC. But as for the whole creation-of-the-universe incident happening then, I am not sure.

The bible is not a book! It is a story and nothing in it can be proved, There has been no dates worth counting up for a time line. After ll it took over 700 years to compile the story.

Im not accepting it because of christianity. Especially since christianity did not come into play for about 4004 years earlier. I came up with the same amount of time. I totally agree with it. The oldest trees on Earth, located here in the southwest US are about 6000 years old. pretty interesting!

Impressive homework. I also believe in July 4th, November 30 and similar dates. Believing in a date is simplistic. What is your question?
