i'm pretty sure that you can. the only real difference is going to be the color. if it also calls for white sugar i would try to replace some with brown sugar and this might help with the missing color. good luck

NO NO NO!!!!!! but what you can do is substitute the light syrup with vegetable oil and sugar, it may sound odd but it definently works.
