I've had her for about 7 months, and people have told me it's bad to leave a dish out all day with dry cat food, but my cat is not fat at all and does not over eat. So is this ok? as long as she is skinny and well enough to run around in the back yard chasing birds.?

I leave food out for my kitties all day. They have a nibble here and there and are all very healthy. Cats who go outdoors (like mine) will be a little slimmer because they get more excercize. It might make you feel better to have the vet take a look. Good luck!

Put a collar with a bell on her to alert the birds she's around.

We have four cats and we leave dry food out at all times. They never seem to over eat. By the way, the cats are 17, 16, 14 and 9 and are healthy. They are indoor only cats.

The problem with leaving out a dish of dry food isn't that it's out all day - the problem is that it's dry food!

Read this and you'll see why dry food isn't good for cats, no matter what you may have heard elsewhere (even from vets):

I have had two cats and have always left dry food out at all times for both of them. One of them just passed away a couple of months ago at the age of 17, so I think as long as your cat looks and acts healthy, you are OK.

You and your cat are fine. As long as the food doesn't go bad, or ants get into it, or something other leaving food out is fine: My vet does!
