Although it is true that a dogs natural diet is meat, most dogs today are domesticated and are not used to meat as a diet. I am a vet tech and see LOTS of dogs with pancreatitis. One cause of this condition is eating human foods. Ham is a big cause. Be very careful and if you are going to do it, only very small amounts.
Other downfalls of feeding meat and other human foods are weight gain and causing the dog to become very spoiled and a picky eater. These dogs often stop eating dog food and will hold out for people food. Human food does not have the nutrients that dogs need.
Remember, dogs are NOT carnivores (strictly meat eating).
They are omnivores, which means they also need veggies in their diet. A good quality dog food should be all your dogs needs to be very healthy.

I raw feed, and sometimes my dogs get organic if its going really cheap (close to use by date). I try to eat it myself whenever possible too, but the extra expense is sometimes an issue. As Da Bassett said - If I buy it for me and it gets a bit old or freezer burned, is usually when it ends up as dog food! I love that no meat is ever wasted in my house. I cannot say that I have noticed a difference in my animals, though (between feeding organic or non organic). I guess I would have to do a more permenant long term change for anything to be apparent. @ Chix - I only read your first 3 paragraphs (sorry at work & shouldn't be online at all lol). However, to answer your question about "organic meat"... Meat most certainly CAN contain pestacides etc. Sprays/poisons are used regularly on most pasture to control all kinds of weeds and as fertilisers. Almost everyone sprays every year for broad leaf etc if they carry livestock on pasture. There are all kinds of withholding periods depending on the toxicity of the poisons used, but make no mistake - if they are grazing on it after spraying... chances are we are eating some too. Sometimes farmers will put cattle or sheep on very shortly after spraying (days and sometimes immediately after). If you DO spray - you cannot label your meat organic. Obviously. Of course it is far more involved than this - There is also "yonies" (sp?) meat etc. What I am mentioning is only the very basic facts as I know them. Carrying capacity can be reduced if you dont spray (fertilisers and weed poison). You have to be much more careful about "head per hectare ratios", due to the fact that overgrazing directly causes increase in weeds etc (if you cant poison them, control is more difficult). Most meat therefore is NOT organic, as farmers can produce more animals with poisions etc to help manage the land. If you DO raise organic certified meat - Then you get quite a bit more per kilo, simply because it is much harder to manage and raise. EDIT: Knowing what I know and see with my own eyes (I live in one of the prime beef raising areas of Australia)... If I could afford it - I WOULD always eat and buy organic, for both me and my dogs/cats etc. Maybe if I win lotto...

Its fine, I actually only give my dog meat from the butcher rather than packaged pet mince. If you look at the packet its packed with all sorts of preservitives and is just the left over gunk that cant be sold for human consumption. If you have a good local butcher you can buy beef and lamb and other sorts of meat cheaper per kilo than you would the pet mince anyway.

YES.............. raw meat will not hurt your dog. You can give cooked since you are not making it a diet of meat and just treats. Do not give pork as pork should be properly prepared before giving raw. cooked pork is okay but do not give cooked bones as cooked bones splinter easily. ALWAYS give bones raw.
I feed the raw diet and it is safe to give dogs meat. a matter of fact it is much healthier than most of the dog foods on the market. If you are buying a cheap commercial brand dog food a bit of real meat in the diet would be good as the commercial dog food has junk in them that is not good for your dog including the over rated over priced science diet.

I don't think you should ever feed your dog human meat. I mean, once they develop a taste for it, you may never be safe again. Also, the police will soon start to wonder what's happening to all of your neighbors!
Seriously, though, the meat comes from the same animals. You should be careful about feeding him from the table though, as it encourages begging.

Meat meant for human consumption is definately better grade than what goes into dog food. Raw meat is fine for dogs in small quantities. The cooking process destroys most of the good stuff in meat but it also destroys harmful bacteria. Maybe just cook the meat so its very rare.

Chicken only! And don't do it very often. Make it a treat every once in a while. Our dog is on a very healthy dog food diet...Nutro.
It's important to give your dog a high quality food...not the supermarket kinds. And research your breed. For instance, we have a German Shorthaired Pointer. They, like most short haired dogs, need a more oily food (chicken, lamb) because of their sensitive skin. If you get them hooked on table food it will be hard to go back. Like a junk food junkie!

It actually is probaly better for them than what the dog food is. But if he/her is not used to it: Try it little by little see how she likes it. I still would buy dog food and give him/her a little cut up meat in the dog food. It also depends if the dog is young or old.

Yes, meat suitable for humans is fine for your dog as a treat. But don't give your dog too much of it. ; )
