Classical music CDS! It stimulates baby's brains! It's also very relaxing and could help her fall asleep more easily. She'll be a little smart cookie just like my son! It would make a great gift.

I would skip clothes unless you find something too cute to pass up, as that's probably what most people will buy. Books are always a great gift, and it is never too early to read to a baby. If you want to do a toy, try to find something that will entertain her for many more months. Another great idea already mentioned is a savings bond. Because really, she will have enough clothes and toys and books. My son already has a few hundred dollars in savings bonds (he is 2), and he will certainly appreciate them when he buys his first car, needs a down payment for a house, maybe an engagement ring, who knows?
You could also give your niece some coupons for free Aunt time -- mom and dad would surely appreciate some free babysitting, and you and your niece would have a great time.

Her parents would probably appreciate it if you bought her a couple of outfits. Maybe the one piece terrycloth ones that snap up the middle, some onesies, socks, pjs. Even a cute dress. Put a small soft plush toy on the package so baby can enjoy it too. Find out her size and buy her the current size and another the next size up. I always appreciated when people would do this. They grow so fast at that age that it's always good to have bigger clothes available. Also,my daughter would spit up so much that I was constantly changing her outfits. I got great deals at the Carter's and Healthtex outlets and always had coupons too! I do the above for my friends with babies and it's always appreciated.

My 3 mnth old loved her gymini and played with it everyday. Babaies this age also like rattles and Jitter bugs that dangle from strollers and they adore cloth books that make a crinkle sound. They also like rhym books, dvd's (baby einstein) and CD's with lulabyes. My daughter had a DC with Celtic lullabyes that was just beautiful there is this one called Warm Prarie Night for little ones that the momma will love because it puts babies to sleep. I really know what three month old babies like so any of these choices would be loved.

There are tones of great suggestions already--classical music CDs, clothes, but I'd add one more thing (and it's Free!) If you live close enough, give her a coupon for 'One Night with Aunt _____' Write on it that it entitles her to one evening of being with favorite Aunt for up to five straight hours!! That will give mom and dad some time to go to movie and dinner one night. Then, the mom gets a gift too!!!
You could also buy sippy cups, bowls for taking on the go, silverware, and stuff that she's too young for but that she will need soon enough.

1. Get a few clothes that are one size large. Kids grow quickly and having slightly larger clothes is handy.
2. Get a good bunting or snow suit for her.
3. Gear that will be useful in next few months - she is 3 months, soon she will need a high chair. It is a gift she will use every day, for the next year or so.
4. Developmentally appropriate toys : http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babygear/818.html

T-shirts, diapers, formula. Help out mom a lil. Get something you know the baby will use or benefit from. If you want to go the toy route, get something that will grow with the child. That they can still use when they are a year old.

A classisc book that can be read aloud to her or she can read when she is older (Peter Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland, Little Women...) It will help her develop a love for good literature and children who are read to from an early age develop vocabulary much faster.

A $50 savings bond. At three months, she's still trying to figure out what her hands are and why those things at the end of her legs move.
