The Cessna Citation Mustang and the Eclipse 500 are both pretty similar. The Mustang has a cruise of 340 kts, and a full fuel range of 1,150 nm. The Mustang costs a bit more than the Eclipse but it comes with the knowledge and backing of Cessna and its many years of aircraft manufacturing. The Eclipse is built by an entirely new company, with new construction techniques, this can be good. The Eclipse is claiming a max cruise of 370 kts with a range of 1,125 nm with four people on board. The Eclipse has a slightly better full fuel pay load of 700 lbs compared to the Mustang's 600lbs.

The Eclipse at about 3000 pounds lighter, should get better fuel economy. Also will fly about 30 knots faster and land and takeoff shorter. Range is comparable, but if you plan to go max distance, be advised the Eclipse has no lavatory. The Cessna Mustang is already being delivered. The Eclipse has been delayed several times. If you are the kind to take a wait and see attitude, wait on the Eclipse. If not, go with a proven product in the Cessna.

The Eclipse jet might be better for pilots looking to buy a personal jet. However, the Mustang with it's larger cabin size and lav will be a better option for chartered flights. Both will increase the number of people able to afford to fly in private jets. Other private jet comparisons and costs can be located at: http://www.jets.com/private_jets.aspx
