Homeschooling usually costs less than $1000 a year. Requirements will vary based upon the state you live in: You can get information for your state at www.hslda.org

As for your parents the best thing you can do is come up with suggestions on how to make it work. Refer them to the website above so that they can see the research for themselves.

All you have to do is pass the same tests at the end of the year that school kids do.

Bear in mind that it's unfair to say Mom's the teacher, or Dad's the teacher. I am in 9th grade as well -homeschooled- and you need to be willing to take on a lot of responsibility for yourself. Talk about how you'll keep up with the workload, you'll be responsible, et cetera. Homeschooling is actually easier than normal school because you can just do your work instead of finding your classroom, waiting around for the boring teacher, waiting while kids get yelled at. And then you have the entire day to do what you want. It rocks.

First you need to talk to your parents. Most schools offer a home schooling course for free. You teach yourself at home, do required work for the week and go in once a week for your new assignments and tests. There are some home schooling courses that require some sort of fee. I home schooled all of high school. I do regret missing out on some experiences of high school but I don't regret being able to graduate year. I started college at 17 and now I have a great paying job. So good luck

wow. u are really motivated to start this on your own as a kid! I was homeschooled from K-12 grade and loved it.
First, I assume your parents are willing and able to do this for you? You have one parent that can stay home and teach you?
There is alot of curriculum out there. I will look up some good websites for you and list them in a little bit.
This is something you must really really want because you are not going to get anything out of it unless you are motivated. You are going to learn (or maybe already learned?) how to self teach and study hard. Homeschooling is a two way street...the parent can teach, but if the student does not want to learn, it is not going to work. If you are ready for this, it is going to be well worth it. You get to pick the subjects, the amount of time you spend on each subject AND the amount of homework really necessary!
I think overall, you are going to be much more relaxed AND more ready to enter college than if you finish thru public school. There are also support groups you can hook up with to find activities.
Please e-mail me thru my e-mail if you want to talk about this more! I would love to share my experiences and give you more tips.

You sound like an extremely mature minded young lady. Your reasons for being home schooled are your own but bare in mind you might have to work that extra bit harder being educated at home. I think your parents would love to hear your opinion on social issues effecting our world it is also good that you are open to talking with your parents. This will allow a long and continued relationship with them that will last into adulthood and when you have children of your own.

Best of luck to you :)

There are so many curricula that cost will vary depending on what you choose. If you like to read and are a christian I recommend Sonlight curriculum.

as far as your parents go a great place to start would be a homeschooling co-op. there other parents could answer their questions. You may even be able to find another homeschooling family to over see your work if your parents cannot.

see HSDA.org to learn about the laws in your state.

the cost of books is largely dependent on the curriculum. If you go wtih Sonlight, you could spend a small fortune on books or, if you have a good library system - next to nothing. (I say that, but I'm honestly not familiar wtih Sonlight's HS curriculum. We tried it one year for 1st grade.)

The fact is the books do cost money, but your parents will save money on lunch, snacks, all the extra junk the schools expect parents to buy and sell and they probably could spend a little less on wardrobe for you.
