Mi best friend boyfirend is muslim (she is atheist), and I want to invite them to have dinner. Anything I should take into consideration apart from the basic no-pork, no alcohol thing?

Dear Angry American... I am not living in the US... just in case, the world is much bigger than you apparently think.

You're right, avoid pork and alcohol, but don't forget the pork by-products! Gelatin for example. Unless it states on the package that it is beef or vegetarian, or if it has a Kosher symbol, then it is not a good idea to use it. Generally anything that has a Kosher symbol is okay for a Muslim to eat, lol. 'Cept alcohol. Where is your friend's boyfriend from originally? Because if he is from say an Arab country or India, you could impress them and cook something regional! Just email me if you'd like some recipes, I love sharing them!

On another note, there are some Muslims who abide strictly by Halal only diets. This means that any meat not slaughtered in the halal manner is not to be eaten. You can ask his g.f. and if that is the case, stick with vegetarian or a seafood dinner.

And trust me, it's not as daunting as it seems, lol!

Edit: Angry "American" should know that many Americans prefer NOT to be sloppy drunks.

If you're Christian or Jewish than technically he could eat beef, lamb, any non-pork or alcohol derived dish. If you're not, then your best bets as the informed on this board have said, are fish, veggies, and maybe chicken. Some muslims say that with the way chicken is slaughtered that it is halal even if not done by a muslim, others disagree. You're safest with seafood and veggies. An earlier poster said you're ok with alcohol, this is an outright lie. No alcohol is permissable for a muslim to consume.

Anything that is halal....

Cook this chicken in any way, without using alcohol or any prok or other flavourings, as long as the meat is Halal, it's fine.....

Also as some mentioned fish, or crabs lol if they like it.....

It's basically the same foods that you will prepare for someone who does not eat pork and the likes, but the meat has to be purely halal... by this, the animal has to be slaughtered by kniofe. Nowadays, they are stunned, and that meat is not halal.

So be carefull, where you buy your meat, ask how the animal is killed.....

And yes, no alcohol..... have soft drinks, water or juices....

No, that's fine. Only make sure that the meat/chicken is 'Halal,' which means that it is slaughtered in the Muslim way. Check it out on the package. It should be informed somewhere. If it's not mentioned on the package, then it's not Halal.

So basically, it's gonna be: No pork, no alcohol and the meat/chicken should be Halal. Oh yes, and no blood too.

Have fun!

Alcohol is actually allowed, but some interpret it as forbidden.

You might want to read the Qur'an and/or ask him on what he wanted to eat.

The basic of what is forbidden in the Qur'an are these:

- Corpse, as in you just happen to find a dead body without you knowing if it's properly killed

- Blood

- Pork

- Anything slain in the name of anything but God

If you have any meat, make sure its Halal.

But fish is okay. All fish is halal, no matter how its prepared (unless you put alcohol in it)
