Rosetta Stone software is the best way to actively learn a language. This software is used by the State Department and NASA and is fabulous! Every language is available and taught very well. My cousin learned Arabic in two years and talks like a native speaker. Just go to Rosetta Stone online and try their demo. You will be very pleased with the outcome. Best of Luck !

There is no "learning a language very quickly". Even Esperanto requires 150 hours of class. Bosnian/croatian/serbian probably takes 900-1100. Your teachers gave bad advice. Knowing how to say something in one language makes it easier to (learn how to) say it in the other.Ask your parents to talk bosnian again, even if only on certain days. Expose yourself to bosnian, by reading books and watching movies with subtitles (serbcroatbosnian with good english subtitles or english ones with croatbosnian subtitles)

For languages like the ones you mentioned I guess that the best method would be to move to that certain country. I consider it the fastest way to learn a language although it can be also expensive...

you can...start young, live in the country where the language is spoken, study really hard, chat with native speakers...
some people just have a natural gift for languages, especially if they've grown up bilingual or even trilingual. once you've learned one new language, other languages become easier.

put yourself into the environment where the language is being spoken...that way you are forced to speak the language and also exposed to it more....practicing and practicing also makes perfect...plus you have to enjoy it and want to learn it bad
