As opposed to the number of people who AREN'T in church? How does one calculate that? There is a strong possibility that there are statistically more religious fat people than non-religious fat people. How does one interpret it? Are religious people more selfish, self-destructive and deluded? Or are religious people more interested in welcome and character than in superficial appearances?

In this sedentary civilization, many people find it necessary to exercise for hours every day and adopt strange, unbalanced diets to keep thin. Perhaps the fat, religious people waste their time getting to know other people and performing charitable works (when they should by running on their individual teadmills, listening to their ipods). Those fat church-attenders who aren't doing anything else may simply be taking refuge in one of the few places that doesn't judge them, unlike the marketplace, the office and even their own families. Perhaps they are lured by the promise of sincere respect for their human dignity.

Unfortunately, even some churches have turned away from the principles of their founder, urging their members to lose weight for Christ, as if there would be a scale to measure their flabby souls at the pearly gates.

You may have to get your own numbers, because in my experience, those churches that take attendance don't distinguish between old and young, rich and poor, fat and thin.

Hello =)

What I'm curious about is why this would be relevant??

Obesity is not characteristic of any other markers, like intelligence, religious preference (or lack thereof), income, or even culture anymore, so, again, I'm confused why you would be interested to know??

I think I know, and my only response to that is SHAME ON YOU!!

Happy Holidays, and Namaste,

I don't know everyone's medical history, and most of the overweight are elderly who perhaps have medical conditions. I feel this is a silly question with no spiritual merit.

Who really has an answer to this question. I'm, in fact, very curious to see who keeps count.

Let me see if I can wrap my mind around this one...you are in CHURCH....and instead of refilling yourself at the spiritual font, or communing with THE MAN upstairs....you are busily engaged in JUDGING the so called imperfections of others...Hmmm.

Merry Christmas...... :-)

Haven't been there in a while, but I would say more than half. I'm one of them. Why?
