"The Blue Ghost" USS Lexington retired as a CVT (Carrier, Aviation, Training) in 1991, left her homeport of Pensacola, Florida to become a museum ship in Corpus Christi, Texas.

When I went through Naval Aircrew Candidate and Aviation Rescue Swimmer School's in 1986... Lexington was there in Pensacola and still heading out to the Gulf of Mexico to train Naval Aviators on their carrier landings.

As students, we were told that if we failed the courses NAC/RSS... we would go straight to the Lexington to chip paint and park airplanes !!
