As much as i respect Mary the attempt to elevate her position has been derived from an unhealthy preoccupation with a person. God is eternal and thereby had no predecessor. yes She was Jesus physical mother when he came to earth as a human. But Jesus said he existed before Abraham, using a term that the jews would no meant was referring to God. He said before Abraham , I am. That I am is the same expression God told Moses to use when he went to speak to Pharoah. Tell him I am sent you. And I am that I am. As for wine. Jesus did not encourage the abuse of wine. In the same manner that food could be considered bad if we behaved as gluttons. Does that make eating food bad? No, it is the abuse of it and in the same manner it applies to wine. Hope this was of some service.

Mother of God! What are you saying? Are you intoxicated, are you? Mother of God, please leave Orthodoxy alone.
Mother of God! What has Jesus and the wine got to do with the younger generations, I am sure that they (the younger generations) cannot turn water into wine, or can they?
Mother of God! I am out of breath, I've got to go.

No, He was not a bad example by any means. It was His first miracle, encouraged by His mother.
