Unless they are someone like a doctor or nurse or air traffic controller who has to be on call for some reason, I think that people who answer their cell phones while talking to someone face-to face are rude and emotionally needy.

I also think that people who have "call waiting" and put you on hold when another call comes are too rude to speak with. Whenever anyone does this to me, I hang up on them.

I believe that cell phones are helping people to shut people out of their lives. Have you ever seen people in cars talking on the phone with 2 or 3 other people having to sit there and listen to one side of a conversation. People speak so loudly that they want people around them to hear everything they say. They stand right behind you in the grocery store and proceed to have a very loud conversation right in your ear. People forget the world exsist when they are on the phone and walk in front of you when normally they would give a right of way, they cut you off on the roads and freeway. And you are right they will say hold on let me get this call. I tell them I will let you talk and I just walk away because obviously what I was saying was not important. The worst and worst by far are the people who talk on the cell phone in the movies even if it is only a few words they are usually so loud that it's irritating or people who don't turn phones off in the movie or people who check who called and light is so bright on those phones in the theater. I pay full price no matinee's so I can sit away from people because I don't want to be disturbed by cell phone calls.

I think it is tacky and rude...however if someone tells me beforehand they are expecting an important phone call then it is not as bad, but they should say something to you before answering such as "excuse me for a few minutes while I answer this." They should then walk a short distance away so you are not awkwardly standing there and half listening to their conversation.

All in all though, most people forget to use good manners as soon as they hear the ring of their cell.

We think they are crude, uneducated louts. It isn't necessary to answer a cell phone as soon as it rings. The calling party can leave a message and you can get back to them later. It's just plain rude to interrupt a conversation to answer a cell phone (or any kind of phone, for that matter) unless the call is of 9-1-1 urgency.

Unless they are oncall, the call is related to their job, it is quite rude for someone to answer their pone and carry on a conversation while having a conversation with another. If I am engaged in conversation face-2-face with someone and my cell rings, I will tap the button to shut off the ring and allow the call to go to voicemail.

I have some freinds that will hold up a hand and answer their phone, in doing so, I tend to walk off.

I think that there are a lot of people who use cell phones that don't have a clue as to what etiquette is.

I has to happen sometimes. If they're polite say please excuse me and keep it short I don't mind. I had a friend I would take girl trips with. She used the drive to catch up with friends and family. I straight out told her I thought we were going for a trip together and that was rude in my opinion. I drive three hours you talk on the phone???

It depends. If they answer quickly and tell the person they'll call them back, and immediately hang up then apologize to me for being interrupted, I usually don't mind too much. If they pick it up and carry on a conversation leaving me standing there looking on, I usually go on about my business if I can, and leave _them_ standing there with their conversation...and I don't drop what I'm doing when they decide to 'get back to me'.

We think the cell phone talkers are R-U-D-E. They don't HAVE to answer the call, I mean, do they get an electric shock if they don't answer it? No.

I think its ok as long as they arent trying to have a long conversation. I do it, but I tell the person calling me that Im busy and will call them back later.
