I want a dog that stays around five pounds, and that is easy to house train. The price needs to be pretty reasonable! If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Thanks!!!

Ever hear of a schnoodle? A little cross between a poddle and schanuzer. They usually always stay under seven pounds and our curly little balls of energy that will keep you amused. But at the same time they are exteremely intellegent and easy to train.
They aren't a resgistered breed anywhere, but that doesn't really matter. They really are Class A+ dogs. Usually you can find them from free to 50 bucks.
My sister got hers for free three years ago, and Gizmo is a very smart and very entertaining.

Five pounds might be hard to keep, even toy breeds can hover around ten pounds. As far as size, Yorkies, the toy breeds of pretty much anything, would be good. I like female dogs but it's more expensive to have them spayed than for a male to be nuetored (I didn't spell that right). We have a female toy poodle but she doesn't look like a poodle, her nose is all pushed in and she's probably not purebred. Anyway, as long as you start training from day one and are consistant, training is easy. I know chihauhas (also spelled wrong), Yorkies, and poodles don't shed at all so it's a lil cleaner, I think. There are other breeds, too. Small dogs have a reputation for being difficult to train, but I've found otherwise. Also ignore that rumor that they have to go outside more because they have a small bladder, that's really stupid. It's not like they eat like a big dog and then have to go because there's so much liquid. Our dog can go out in the morning before work and hold it until I come home in the evening and be fine. You might want to look at the American Kennel Club website just to see the different breeds. Remember a pure bred will always cost more, a pet shop will try to rip you off, and casual breeders need to be carefully considered to be sure the dogs are healthy. Of course, always be sure to get the dog checked out at the vet and remember you're adopting a living thing with its own personality, and be prepared to be committed. Good luck with the hunt, I'm sure you'll love whoever you adopt.

There are not many dogs that stay around 5 pounds and most of them are hard to house train (toy breeds are notoriously hard to house train).

You'd be best getting an adult dog so that you can be sure of its weight and house training abilities!

Check with your local Chihuahua rescue group. Rescue dogs are also much more affordable than buying from a breeder!

Actually you are on starting out good in your quest for a dog. What I would recommend is that you add to your list of what you would like or dislike in a breed. Grooming, health and temperment issues, trainability etc.

Rescue organizations would be a great place to start. Also don't get a designer dog. Because they are usually f1 hybrids, meaning first generation crosses, there is no guarantee on size, health or temperment. Don't be fooled by those saying that it's the best of both breeds-they can't be for sure-breeding two different breeds together means more genetic junk to mess with.

Toy breeds in are harder to housebreak but if you are diligent, it can be done. Also toy breeds mature sexually faster and are smarter then most of their humans. I know, I have a brussels(about 6 lbs) and a pomeranian(6 lbs) that keep on my toes more then my cardigan welsh corgis!

Honestly, I love my brussels and pom, but also like papillions.

Good luck!

Pomeranians are between 3-7 lbs. How trainable they are, though, depends on how good of a trainer YOU are. I'm not sure what you consider to be a reasonable price, but they're at least a few hundred dollars.

I have #5 Chihuahuas. You can find them, anywhere from 2 to 6 pounds. They normally run from $300 and up. If you buy one, please get one from a breeder. They are much healthier, and have a much better temperament. As with training, they are just like any other breed, it just takes time and patience.

A stuffed one. You don't have to train it, you don't have to get medical care, buy food for it etc, and it will always stay under 5 pounds.

If there is such a thing as a 5 pound dog, then it isn't a dog. It's what real dogs poop out and people step in. Get a real dog.

Try to get a toy poodle. There are types of poodles that are really small, we used to have a lot of them before. I also read that poodles are very smart and obedient.

A miniature pincher(min pin), or a toy fox terrier would fit your needs. you might even try a Brussels Grifon.
