Some of them do. Personally, mine is above 140, and I've been a member of MENSA. Then again, if you read enough posts, it's fairly easy to tell at least some of them aren't what they claim. Look at the language, look at the construction of the posts. Look at the ability to convey what it is that they wish to say. Spelling is another clue.
Edit: "If people can't spell, can't convey ideas, are easily confused with statistics, they might just be lying about thieir intellectuall abilities."
Previously, it was "If peple can't spell, can't convey ideas, are easily confused with statistics, they might just be lying about thieir intellectuall abilities." Anyone can make a typo, but if spelling is continuously a problem, one begins to wonder.
Also, it's easy to find so-called IQ tests that artificially inflate such measurements. Better than a single number from a test might be a percentile score. above 140 on good tests places an individual in around the 98th percentile.
It's interesting to note that I once heard a senator from Maine bemoaning the fact that half of their children scored lower than average on standardized tests. So how stupid is that? Half must necessarily be bleow average, and the other half above average. That's what average means. It's no wonder why people fail to understand statistics when our leaders can't do it themselves.

The average IQ in america is, ironically, under 100 (98).
You do realize that all these people are naively telling you their IQ is over 120+ because they're taken a horrible online IQ test and believe the results?
A lot of people do lie avout their IQ (I like to compare it with penis size), but a lot probably arn't lying; they've just taken a poor test that has inflated their result.
Tickle is a HORRIBLY INACCURATE IQ TEST and it seems almost everyone has taken it...and magically gotten excellent results! The average score on it is 120! (Honestly, the test is so easy if you don't score over 120 your IQ is probably sub-100). The test is so psychometrically incorrect; there is no time limit, no powered questions, questions are all similar and culturally biased and there are only a few choices and in most cases the correct choice is udderly obvious.
My friend was tested as a child at an IQ of 97, and scored 127 on tickles test. That just goes to show you how inaccurate the test can be; you don't have to be smart to score high. The questions arn't really 'powered' at all; IE they are almost all the same difficulty. The test is set up this way because it's a sales gimick; it's set up so that most people get most of them right, and get a pretty score so they pay for their results.
Do you honestly expect a site that is reliant on traffic and sales to tell people that their IQ is under 100!? Won't happen, and that's where half of the problem comes from.
The other half of the problem is lies. Or people that were misinformed/people that are using a strange standard deviation/people that are stating ratio IQ's.
But really, at the end of the day it's their loss and their lies. If they were ever to actually take a real IQ test, they would probably be devastated at how poorly they did.

Actually, the average is exactly 100. Depending on which scale you use, one standard deviation is 10 or 15. So, 110 is not too far above average.
Do I believe someone when he states his IQ level? No. I won't just take someone's word for it--especially on the Internet.
I judge someone based on how he writes. I can usually tell if someone has a substandard IQ.
Edit: And yes, I agree with you that boasting tends to reflect insecurity in someone. People who feel the need to be accepted and taken seriously will flaunt their "good qualities," even if they are false or trivial. IQ tests are so diverse and subjective that someone could eventually get 130 with the right tester (especially an inexperienced one). Then he can lord that over everyone.
Bragging is a defense mechanism for the weak. I dated someone who worked into every conversation that Ewing Kaufman was her grandfather (this is more of a big deal if you're familiar with Kansas City). She had no other qualities to offer except her celebrity status (and not even a good one at that). I stopped dating her when I learned that there was nothing she could add to my life.

Nope.
I also don't think that someone's IQ matters when they've just given a wrong answer.
I also get a kick out of the people who say they've done extensive study in some field...then make a basic mistake (e.g., the woman today who claimed to have studied biology and chemistry, and then said that evolution claims that life came about by chance).
Credentials don't matter: being correct matters. Heck, even Bush went to Yale . How often has he been right?
Oh, and my IQ is 11,498.

It doesn't take a genius to see that IQ tests are not very accurate (or does it?).
IQ tests can only measure certain kinds of intelligence. The overwhelming complexity of the human intellect cannot be reduced to a test score.
In certain job situations, certain tests can indeed help predict the ability to do a certain job but that function of the IQ test is constrained to a specific situation.
Really intelligent people don't care about IQ.

No of course not and from what I've heard the average is now in the low to mid 90s, of course I'm sure it depends on what study and who they poll and all that. Never believe what a stranger tells you, especially when it's about their weight, age or IQ. by the way I'm a 6 foot strapping lad of solid muscle aged 21 with an IQ of 155.

It's those stupid weird online tests. They always show too much. According to them (i took some 3 or 4), I have IQ that ranges from 110 to 130 and even 140. Now which one to believe?

From most of the questions and answers on here I believe that the average is some where between 80 and 110 with very few exceptions. Just read some of the answers to this question and I'm sure that you will agree.

I took one of those on-line IQ tests and scored a 129. I was kind of humbled by this. I thought it would be a little higher. Remember, these test are still subjective and don't really rate someones life experiences that I believe should also be a factor.

My last few IQ tests came out at 130, but there is a lot that I know nothing about.
It does give me much better reasoning ability though.
