Hi there! I'm a hairdresser and you don't have to wait anytime for washing your hair after a perm. All the processes done and it should be permanent. Bonds in the hair are broken down with the perm lotion and the neutraliser bonds them in the shape of the roller.
After the final rinse its permanent or should be if permed and neutralised properly. ;o)

You can wash it any time after a perm. The confusion arises because the old formulation for perms depended on a reaction of the neutraliser (put on after the perm solution has been rinsed off). The neutraliser had to take oxygen from the air, which then "set" the curl in place. It was believed that if you washed it too soon, then the oxygen would be removed fom the hair, leading to the curl becoming relaxed again. We now know that this is not true - but the myth persists (even with a lot of hairdressers).

ideally about 3-5 days as your perm will need time to settle, some hairdressers will tell you a week, i had to wash mine after 3 days as it was really itchy and tuggy, but if you can stick it out then leave it for as long as you can, and my perm lasted for a long time, havent had one for about 4 years but my hair is still slightly curly,

When I got my perm, I had to leave it until friday and i got it on tuesday, so about four days. When I got mine, though, I just spritzed it with a water bottle before i combed it. It helps with the curly tangles.

How ironic I had just had my first perm! 48hrs before you can wash with shampoo and conditionar. But you can wet it before then.

best way to get rid of it is to go to a swimming pool straightaway if you don't like it
otherwise wait 48 hrs before washing it

Usually, which too long for me. I believe it depends on the guy as well as his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other folks can't.
