Any fishing line made with Spectra fibers would be the best choice. Currently there are many manufacturers using this product in braided line.
As far as monofilament goes, my choice is Trilene XT for 90% of fishing conditions I encounter.
Mono does have a tendency to have line memory that sets in after prolonged periods of storage and does weaken with exposure to UV rays.
Check your line for abrasion and knots for tightness and strength every few casts (3-4 or more often when fishing rocks or timber) and after each catch. You will land far more fish than you lose by doing this.

This is a very good question, their is a lot of good quality line out there. I have used many kinds and have narrowed my choice down to one that i use. It's called (GAMMA) I have lost less fish using this line than any other, but don't forget it's just as important to match your line to your rod and real. Don't just put any (LB) (Kg) on. I have seen so many rods just explode because the line did not match the rod. It was just a week ago and i witnessed this, a Chinese guy got a snag and he just kept pulling his line then snap. Not the line but his rod. He told me he had just got the rod and now he was going to take it back. I looked at the rod for him and the line and showed him his problem. He had 25BL line on a light action rod DAAA.
One more thing to help you keep your line last longer When you put new line on your real, put what you have left over in a brown paper bag and store it in the freezer. Also keep your line out of direct sunlight until you need to use it.

I really do not recommend storing line for more than a year before discarding or replacing. The best line I have ever ran across is Gorilla Braid, which I am not able to find anymore. The next best I have found is spider wire, but if you want mono go with Berkleys or Andes Backcountry.

The best ones that I know are:
- Shakespeare TARGA Specimen (by Shakespeare UK)
- BERKLEY Trilene
- Maxima
- Stren
- Ande Tournament line
There's also a quality assurance scheme put in place by the "European Fishing Tackle Trade Association", with approved lines being listed here on their website:

i particularly like spider wire fusion, but its hard to come by now a days. the next best i think is triline... stay away from the store brands, and anything that is real inexpensive, you get what you pay for and throwing a few extra bucks down is well worth it when it comes to landing that fish or not.

Ande is the best. It has little stretch, yet it's tough and won't snap unless it's old line and you have nicks in it.

MY FAVORITE LINE IS "POWER PRO" LINE IT HAS A SMALL DIA. TO WEIGHT RATIO. IT ALSO IS VERY DURABLE, AND IS NO STRETCH. THE ONLY DRAWBACK THAT IT HAS IS IT IS VERY HARD ON REELS AND GUIDES ON YOUR ROD, BECAUSE ITS ABRASIVENESS. I HAVE HAD MY 30 LB. ON FOR TWO YEARS AND IT SRILL HAS THE SAME BREAKING STRENGTH.
