The Bible does warn of witchcraft and false teachings. I think that pertains to real people though and not fictional characters. It's a warning about false prophets who will show powers and of course the Antichrist. The Harry Potter books are not a How To Guide for witchcraft. They actually do have some great morals in them. Again though, it's fiction. Watch out for those that actually practice magic.
God Bless you and Merry Christmas.

Focus on the Family and the American Library Association. Mostly any Christian fundamentalist group will tell you that the Harry Potter books are influencing kids to do stuff like witchcraft and black magic. In a way, and I am just saying this, but in a way, there are people who I call Harry Potter Christians: look at Benny Hinn: in the article about Harry Potter Christians on the website deciptioninthechurch.com, it shows that Hinn revealed in his 1991 sermon that he apparently "Visits Kulhman's (Who is Kulhman? I don't know) grave and is one of the only few who has a key to access it. He also visits Aimee's (Don't know who he/she is) and felt a 'terrific anointing'" as he calls it. I'd read more, but, I fear that most of these people other than Benny Hinn are those that I don't know. So, use this link.
What it was saying there is that apparently some Christians can be compared to stuff in the Harry Potter books.
I only know that Harry Potter is the spearhead in this controversy, but think about this: there are two different kinds of fictional magic: the good kind commonly used by the heroes and there is the evil magic, commonly used by the villans. In my opinion, Harry Potter is neither. To me, the books are just stories. I don't see a possible way that there is any link between the Harry Potter books and Satanism.
This is just half of my answer. If you wanna get real stuff, check out the sources. In my view, the series is ultimately innocent entertainment. The answer is for the reader to decide.
Everyone else here is right. Except for those that denounce Harry Potter. I, too, have had a situation that has some of the same reasons, but this is more against music, mainly Black Sabbath, upon all allegations that heavy metal is satanic.
Some of it is, some of it isn't, but it matters on what I interrpuret of it. Compare this to yours: compare Harry Potter to other books Christian and non-Christian. It's not really anybody else's view except yours. That's all I can say.

If we were to ban the HP books, we might as well also ban Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Wizard of Oz, most of the Disney movies and stories, and thousands of other movies and TV programs as well. Oh, and don't forget all the great Christmas shows on TV. Angels coming down to Earth and changing people's lives are as much magic as any of those other stories. Only difference is, angels are a Christian thing, so that makes them okay. As a Pagan myself, I can state that nothing in those HP books is anywhere near what true Wiccans, or even witches, do. Even Buffy, Charmed, the Craft, Practical Magic, the Blairwitch Project, and others, are way off-base. Satanic? The people who make that claim don't even know what Satanism is. That's like me saying your nationality is bad or wrong, without even knowing what it is!

From a Biblical perspective anything that does not comes from God, has to come from some one else, in this case the devil. Wizards, spells and that sort of things are viewed as doors to spiritual world all this has ancient basis, Egypt,Babylon, etc. The problem is how to access the spiritual world, through God (Jesus) or through other means.
Hard line evangelicals condemn this practice because it presents this type of acts (spells and the occult) with the purpose of sensitizing kids to this sort of this and thus with curiosity the willingness to try them which needles to say won`t lead you to find the good Spirituality God ( the only door and way to him is through JESUS ). Any ways it is impossible to ban this type of things and label them, if it is just for the entertainment maybe is OK , if it is not them you have a problem. There is a saying , i can´t keep it from raining but i can keep dry.

I'm not sure who decided they are "satanic" but I think it's nonsense. They are just fun and magical to read and I don't see anything evil about them! If they claim that they are evil because it's all about witches and wizards then The Wizard of Oz, The lion, the Witch and Wardrobe, and Lord of the Rings should be banned too. I think the people who say they are evil are just close-minded and don't see the big picture, they just hear "harry potter" and freak. I personally love them and I would let my kids read them too. I don't see the big deal, they're just books!

Harry Potter is full of sorcery. Sorcery is idolatry to God. It is seeking other super powers before God.
Sorcerers dont go to heaven. So they need to repent for not believing in Jesus Christ before they die or else they will end up in hell.
I haven't read them myself, but the Holy Spirit directs to not read them. There are books at any Christian store that would answer your question.
Yes they are satanic because they are sorcery.
It would be good if they were banned, but we have freedom of religion and speech in America.

The Christians were the first to come up with the stupid idea that the Potter books were bad, a Catholic no doubt since they are against anything that could be fun for the kids. I mean why let those little ones have fun when you can have all the fun yourselves by telling them that they will go to hell for reading those books.

In England, in the first two weeks after a Harry Potter book comes out, there are 38% less children in the emergency rooms of hospitals, for the simple reason they quietly read.
I'm kinda sure that could never have been Satan's goal...

I guess some religious parents think that magic is satanic and there kid might wanna try magic. Which would turn them away from God. I dont think any book should be banned unless it teaches you how to commit crime and get away with it. Banning books is a sing of close minded society and very dangerous to progress.

I don't know who it was, but it was probably some left-wing evangelical type which in itself makes no sense to me because all those ladies look like ugly melted mannequins.
I don't think they should be banned. Lord of the Rings has magic and no one complains about those and so does Star Wars. There's magic in a lot of stuff, if we ban HP, then we have to take magic out of everything else (so long Tinkerbell?). And all that's left will be downright dull.
