If I convert to Islam, what are the odds I could win the right to have 4 wife's using a religious freedom defense? I remember a few years ago some idinan tribes won the right to eat magic mushrooms. Any thoughts, I haven't heard of this being done yet.

Libra, I would let them all find jobs except for one, then I could sit on my butt and watch tv or let them buy me a nice motorcycle to cruise around on.

The Mormons already tried that...now thanks to the one man and one woman amendments, your chances are even slimmer.

Well converting to Islam is not about how many wife's you can have. It about submitting to God with a true heart, declaring Allah as the only God and Muhammad being his last messenger. Its about following the 5 pillars of Islam and living a wholesome life. Anyone who wants to take a second wife has to have valid reasons behind it and also his first wife has to agree to it. Its not about the husbands lust if that's what you are assuming. In the days of Muhammad (PBUH) many of the men died in battles and the women in the villages would be left spinsters which to be a wife and a mother is very important in Islam. Therefore it was made permissible for a man to take another wife rather than the woman being left childless. In this day and age there are plenty of wonderful Muslim men to go round and sisters don't need to be a second wife anymore. Religious freedom like you say is not a reason to have 4 wives, the purpose behind it was much deeper.

That's because a truly educated person on Islam knows that 4 wives is extreme. It was allowed only when there are way more women than men due to men dying in war and such. In that time, women were not able to live on their own due to screwed up culture (gee, sounds familiar). So men were allowed to marry them if the women agreed. Also, the Quran says a man must be equally just between all wives. He can not play favorites. They must each have their own homes and live comfortably. He must not complain about carrying out his duties in terms of supporting them. He must be financially able to support all wives and all children resulting from those marriages. The Quran also goes on to say it is better for a man to marry just one wife because he is not even able to be just with one woman. Here is the verse.

[004:003] And if ye fear that ye will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women, who seem good to you, two or three or four; and if ye fear that ye cannot do justice (to so many) then one (only) or (the captives) that your right hands possess. Thus it is more likely that ye will not do injustice.

[004:003] If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers - you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. Additionally, you are thus more likely to avoid financial hardship.

Well, I have heard of a Muslim man who had two wives in America. But the purpose is not for pleasure, rather this rule was enacted, because after certain battles (against the Idolaters, and Pagan Arabs) many husbands died, and their lives were left widowed, to the Prophet said it was better if you took care of a Widow, and married her and treated her just like your wife. Equally, not preferring one over the other.

Not allowed in the U.S.. Some Mormon Cultists still take several child brides and they must be hunted down and removed to an institution where they can become the bride of Bubba.

I personally as a Muslim don't want people to have more then one wife and am happy that there is a law prohibiting it.Islam does not tell you to take a wife because of your own pleasure but prefers a man take a poor widow or someone that needs help but isn't offered any,.

No, you can't marry more than one wife legally, even if it is approved by your religion. The Mormons aren't legally allowed to do it, so a Muslim wouldn't be either.

I think the Indian tribes are different since they were here first.

What is your objective? If it is just to be a polygamist, moving to Utah may be easier. Religion should not be used to advance your selfish gains now, rather it is to get to know, love and be forgiven by God in heaven.
