According to their own prophet Christians and all non-believers should be converted to Islam using the sword, so maybe that's how they should be converted.

Islam is the most tolerant religion on the face of this earth. If not, then why would we put up with the non-tolerant Christian religion? What you are thinking are the few fanatics that the media glorifies and makes it seem there's more than what they are. Believe me, they were Christians who blew up the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City bfore the Islamic fanatics blew up the World Trade Center. The Christians merely taught the Muslim fanatics how it was done right.

I find that people who practice radical rejection, feel rejected themselves. The only way to counteract this alienation is to completely embrace the person with love and respect, to listen and acknowledge the person's true beliefs and feelings hidden behind the anger and indignation, without imposing judgment or taking sides. Only by peeling away the layers of stress and oppression, the hurt from past injustices or judgments, can forgiveness enter the picture and the truth can unfold in other ways besides hostility, resentment and attack.

The same way it takes centuries and generations to build up such engrained hostilities and biases, the healing process also takes time and care. For more help on how to open up safe dialogue to being the healing process, see also:

Another group that hosts workshops to facilitate personal transformation, to prevent racial or other violence, is
the Alternatives to Violence Project
http://www.avpusa.org

Both of these groups have worked minor miracles in changing hardened hearts, minds, and behavior. It is very possible, and follows a natural process change, but has to occur freely in a safe supportive environment, either alone one-on-one or surrounded by peers, where no one feels judged.

I think it needs to be done through economic development in the middle east, many Muslims have so little opportunity and hope for the future that a a fanatical form of Islam is very appealing. If they have jobs, families, houses etc, I think they may become more moderate.

Nick F makes a very good point.. as does emily to an extent.

it's imoprtant to point out thought that fundamentalist or tolerant are not sects or branches or schools of the same religion. The doctrine always stays the same, but it is followers who misrepresent it, abuse it, and twist its teachings to their own advantage.

those who are called fundamentalist have beliefs deemed wrong or mistaken or misguided by more enlightened followers. So it's a matter of changing attitude, or more accurately, perception.

A good way of doing that might be to reintroduce them to the life of their prophet, illustrating and bringing to light his qualities of tolerance, compassion, patience, and mercy, in a way that brings him closer to their hearts, as if he were still alive today and makes them feel loved and cared for. He is, after all, a great father figure to many young men.
There are several scholars, preachers and lecturers today who can achieve something like that, and I suppose they can be called "moderate", although I don't like to use either term very much.

But we still have a responsibility in all of this. Just as we expect those with fundamentalist attitudes to be patient and to listen to reason, so must we be patient and listen to their needs, in order to discover the root of their rebellion.

yes there is, but first let me tell you:
Islam is not a new religion, but the same truth that God revealed through all His prophets to every people. For a fifth of the world's population, Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith.
Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God; in the Angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and individual accountability for actions; in God's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist, and Jesus, peace be upon them. But God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through Gabriel.
Now regards your question:
There is a way of converting someone:
By rational Islam.
By trying to make Quran speak to modern minds.
By rational thinking which gives rational ideas and has great appeal to modern minds.

Be blessed!!!

i exploit to be a Muslim. Qur'an is relatively plagiarized from distinctive works. "A leaf does not fall without Allah's command" it quite is from the Talmud written over 4 hundred years in the past Muhammad lived. Surah The Cave, ripped off almost word for word from a Syrian Orthodox(Oriental) church legend. Qur'an have been given the two mary's incorrect via 1400 years. apparently all the Talmud rip offs are all in Madina surahs after the conflict of the ditch(the single the place muhammad had all the Jewish adult males accomplished and enslaved all the girls, the two infant and grownup or maybe took a million as his spouse after killing her husband) Qur'an replaced into the clarification I "reverted" to Islam and replaced into the perfect reason I left Islam. i ought to no longer proceed to have faith in Islam understanding how phony it replaced into, plus the qur'an is confusing to study because maximum surahs are no longer based on the era of revelation yet somewhat put in place to sound good whilst recited. through fact of this the 1st ayah printed is far interior the back of the qur'an. Oh and in case you verify to pass away Islam later, assume fairly some dying threats and different varieties of threats(which incorporate visits on your paintings and residing house, got here approximately to me)

Its not something someone can change its the individual.Like in all religions its how someone interprets the religion and book. Moderate Muslims are people whom take the true meaning of the quran and interpret it in their life. Radicals are some people whom need to be guided to know the real interpretation of the Quran.

GOD Laws are made of three Books: The Old Testament, The new Testament and Quran as a conclusion all originated from the middle east. How can you understand GOD LAWS with out reading GOD Conclusion? Islam is the most moderate and the last massage from God.
"Say: we believe in God and in what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il: Isaac, Jacob and The Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus and the Prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another, among them, and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)." (Qur'an, Al-Imran 3:84)

there is no such thing as tolerant and radical islam

islam is islam

the tenets and practices are the same..

the people who confuse their cultural practices with islam are the ones we need to change..

similarly, you wont see a lot of malaysians yelling down with israel...because theyre not arab and because they dont really feel as strong about jews killing arabs or the other way around...
