Ask the dealer or individual if you can take it to your mechanic to have checked out... if they really want to sell the vehicle, they'll let you. If not, walk away. I've done it several times and never had a problem.

If the vehicle isn't near you, write into the sales contract that you reserve the right to return the vehicle for the selling price if your mechanic finds anything significantly wrong with it OR require the seller to pay for the repair. A friend did this with a BMW M3 he bought and it worked out great.

Most honest people selling a car will say yes. Thy want to sell you something good. On the other hand there is always a few people out there trying to sell you something thy know is junk.

I am a mechanic and charge a small fee for this service, and people truely want to buy a car will have a mechanic go over it from frount to back. This way you knoew just what you are buying. To buy one with out checking it out is well the old saying goes a pig in a poke.
So have it checked out. If the person says no, look for another car.

Hope this answers your question

Take it to your mechanic or a dealer that sells that brand new. Tell them that you are considering buying it and want a pre-purchase inspection and report.

If the seller won't allow that, just walk away. Do not do business with a seller who will not allow an independant inspection.
