My guess is you already thought of inviting him over, and he perhaps declined? One year when I was alone for the holidays....I had to work and my family lived too far away for me to go there...I got invited to several places. But I didn't take up any of the offers because I felt like an intruder. That said....I think a nice traditional holiday meal would be fitting. If you are having ham, slice some off ahead of time and cook it up. If you are having turkey, run out and buy yourself a couple of turkey filets or a turkey breast and roast it as you would normally. You can also buy ready-made mashed potatoes if you don't want to cook up a whole pot full the night before. A small can of jellied cranberries, a couple of dinner rolls from the bakery, and glaze some carrots in the microwave. (Buy the kind that are fresh and already peeled in the grocery store, add brown sugar and butter, and nuke for about 4 minutes! DELISH!!) If you have Xmas cookies, put a little tin of those together for him. If not, I would buy a single serving cupcake or some kind of dessert. While I think lasagna is great, I think someone alone on Christmas would appreciate something more traditional. HELPFUL HINT - Bring enough for Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day!! He will truly appreciate it!!
Bless you!!
PS - OOPS!! You posted your reason for not inviting after I already started to ramble on!! Ha!!

Hi there, I gather you are in Northern Hemisphere, so it is cold? Well down here in Australia whilst it is hot we still like our 'traditional' Christmas food. I guess it all depends as to how much 'fuss' you want to go to as well. Me, I would do a small warming soup for starters, then for main meal I would buy a 1/4 cooked chicken, a couple of slices Ham from Deli where they have the actual 'Ham on the bone' more flavour than processed. And whatever veggies you thought would be right and a small packet of ready made gravy, a couple of bread rolls. I have seen here in our Supermarkets where you can pick from single Plum Puddings, Xmas cakes or 2 Mince Tarts, ideal for person on their own with a small carton of custard.
And a very Merry Christmas to you and your friend and everyone that reads this idea offering.

I have two answers to your dilemma:
If you "care a lot for this guy", why not spend Sunday with him? That way he won't be alone, he'll have you as company......and you can both cook together........He may be alone on Christmas day, but at least he would have had you for company on Christmas Eve......
2) If the above doesn't appeal to you, get him a mini-ham and dress it up, with cloves and pineapple to make it look festive...along with some boxed stuffing mix (that you prepare for him) and a veggie or two.......Hormel Cure 81 hams are quite inexpensive, and great for one or two person(s)......pack them in those disposable Hefty Locking Plates and he can reheat them in the microwave and the ham in the conventional oven......At very least, Happy Holidays to you both......you seem like a very caring individual to want to brighten up someone who would otherwise be alone......and perhaps lonely, the WORST feeling on Christmas.........

Bring him over to your place for dinner that easy thing might make his entire year let alone his holliday. Come on where is that
Christmas spirit. Perhaps you can take him to church. If he cant leave his house bring him a turkey dinner from Boston Market.

My family makes so much food for dinner there is always a slew of leftovers. So we use disopsable plates and package up meals to deliver to people. We have our usuals that we deliver too, mostly the graveyard workers at my Fathers office or the workers at my former place of employment.. that kind of thing.
SO maybe when you are sitting down to your Xmas dinner you could make a plate of leftovers for him to enjoy.
Better yet, why dont you invite him for dinner?
My Mum always has an open table policy. Anyone is welcome.
