By the standards of most people (who believe that as long as you are kind and do not break the law you are a good person), I am a good person. But I've fallen short of God's standards except for the fact that He has forgiven me.

Am I a good person? Well, I have done some good things, but I am a sinner, needing God's forgiveness. My standard comes from what the Bible teaches. I strive to meet those Biblical standards, but fail daily.

Only through His righteousness (Jesus).
Those who don't understand this righteousness, which comes from God as a gift, become frustrated trying to establish their own righteousness through good works (Rom. 10:3). It won't work. It's an all or nothing situation (Rom. 11:6). We must trust completely in what Jesus did for us to obtain right relationship with God. Any trust in our own goodness will void the atonement Christ made for us (Gal. 5:4).
Righteousness is a gift that comes from the Lord to those who accept what Jesus has done for them by faith (Rom. 5:17-18). The gift of salvation produces a changed heart that, in turn, changes our actions. Actions cannot change our hearts. It's the heart of man that God looks upon (1 Sam. 16:7), and we must be righteous in our hearts to truly worship God (John 4:24).

It is too bad that people think that to each person, their 'truth' and standards, are relative. How can we measure something, when we each define what a measurement is? Your inch may be my foot.

So. What I would call evil, you could call good. What I think about myself, you may despise.

Yeah, I'm a pretty good person...flawed but overall not too bad...I try to treat people as I'd like to be treated, and keep negativity to a minimum...

minimizing harm to others makes you a good person. There are plenty of people of faith who claim to be good people yet you can see them harming others. Must walk the talk.
