Autism is a chemical imbalance in the brain, causing the person in question to be mentaly retarded (slow) some cases are alot worse than others. Most autistic people have a subject they are brilliant at ( better than us!) like maths (they can add, subtract, multiply, divide very large sums that we would need a calculator for! while the might not know the answer to 1+1 or 2+2.etc.. , photographic memories, science etc.yet they might have trouble understanding the simple things. Although they are very intelligent people. A good example of autism is the film "Rain Man" with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hofman. Its a great film you should watch it sometime

The inability of a person to read body language. Auspergers is the most severe form. read "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" by Mark Haddon...

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a murder mystery novel like no other. The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone. Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down.

I would go to the Autism Society for more accurate information. There is a theory that preservatives used for childhood vaccinations increase the risk. Because they used to use a mercury based preservative. A dear friend of mine has an Autistic son who also has ADHD and she was working with brain surgeons and others to get the mercury based preservatives out of vaccinations. It worked most no longer have the mercury. As we know mercury can cause a bunch of issues with our bodies which is why pregnant women should not eat more then one serving per week of fish especially Tuna and a few others.

One other thing Autism does not a stupid person make. Sometimes if given the proper therapies they can go onto be able to do great things. My friend fought for therapy for her son and he is moderately Autistic...he is an honor role student three years running.

my son is autistic and i also work for the national autistic society, aspergers is not the worst form of autism in fact it is the least, a child with aspergers can go on to lead a normal life with the right care and support , where as a child or adult with autism depending on the severity of there own condition ( that is why it is called autistic spectrum disorder) will need more support, autisim is a very varied disorder and it can also come with other problems such as downs syndrone, severe learning difficulties, and behavioural problems with the right care and support any person with this disorder can lead a good as life as you and me.

Autism is a biological disorder of the brain that impairs communication and social skills. It encompasses a broad spectrum of disorders that may range from mild to severe. Autistics have been described as being in their “own world”. Many high functioning autistics describe two worlds; “their world” and the “outside world”.

Autism is a diease where it is hard for the affected person to communicate with others. They find it hard to let go of liking childhood shows like the tellitubbies and they are not quite as smart as normal people are.
In my multi-media class, there are three people with autism that come once a week and I have a friend who has a brother with autism.
Autism is a very sad disease. I hope we find a cure for it some day.
Hope that helps!

I just wanna add that I also have a friend whose brother is autistic, and he actually EATS PAPER! Anyway, good answers; I was also wondering exactly what this condition is.

I also believe the cause could be aspartame or MSG!!

I think the cure could be diet, and the Bates method and/or Alexander technique.
