The devil, according to the bible is at this moment in a bottomless pit awaiting to be loosed for his allotted time.
Right now, what you feel is the "law" that God has placed in our hearts. You break this inner law and you feel it and know it.
Now the demons are still running about tempting us to give in to our weaknessess. But, for the most part, we choose to obey or disobey God and his laws because of our own sin nature and selfishness.
The book of Romans in the new testament is a good explanation of our own thoughts and desires getting in the way of doing Gods will.
Just remember that even though the demons are still running about, the angels and the Holy spirit are also here with us to help us resist temptation. Ask for their guidance and protection next time you are still and communicating with God.
