You have gone above and beyond. Stop beating yourself up. Most people can't be bothered to provide basic veterinary care and are unwilling to spend any money when it comes to behavioral problems. Your cat enjoyed 14 years in a loving home. You did a good job and made the right decision. Now time for you to enjoy not cleaning up and repairing your home constantly. Hopefully the next pet you have doesn't prove to be such a burden, but either way, you are a good caretaker and the next one will be just as lucky as the last to have an owner like you.

Patience
Maturity
Call someone who has dealt with them before
Does the applicant come from a family with siblings? Has teh applicant cared for little kids before? Ask what they would do in case of an incident (say kid climbed on somethgn and fell off).
Are the over social cell phone fanatics who will be trying to take calls while watching the kid?

Only friends or relatives that you know very well, who actually enjoy being with your child. Children are too precious to leave with just anyone,
Or why not go to places where you can all have fun together, beautiful restraunts are often open during the day and you can always finish off the evening with a bottle of wine at home.

Someone who is good with children, is a great start.
Invite them over for an interview when your son is awake (if he still naps) and just let him and the potential sitter play, watch how they interact etc. Does the sitter get on the floor with him, talk at his level,, not standing above him all the time etc.
Check References as well to see what otehr parents have to say.

First of all, I would not hire a teenage boy for babysitting, they just do not have the maturity level required. Secondly, I would talk to the sitters parents and get to know them and her. This will give you some idea as to how she was raised and her background. And talk to someone she has babysat for previously, that should help! Good Luck!

well i babysit for a boy of 4yrs of age and you need someone who is understanding and not scared to say what has to be done if the child does not go to bed when told. they need to be happy fun and not afraid to play games with the child . i have a crb check (criminal record check) because i do a teaching corse but this is not always necesary. you should get to know them first find out if they are trust worthy! :) x x

I got a lady to babysit a few times. She was an older lady, a retired doctor's assistant, a neighbor, had 3 grown children. She was awesome!
