being in business for himself my husband is closing his company for the week of christmas and not returning untill after the holiday , I'm filling in for the secretary who took off today and a supervisor for a home builder chewed me out cause I told him it would be Jan 2 before we could have someone there because we are closed for the holidays. He told me we couldn't close because people depend on our service. He got furious when he called on line two and I answered again. He started demanding to speak to the owner. He got so irrate with me and he ended up slamming the phone on me while I was appologizing to him for us having a full schedule today. My husband's company does stained and leaded glass restoration and repair. It's not like someone is going to die if thier stained glass window isn't fixed right away.

They have "needs" and you are not tending to his needs. What is wrong with you? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! (And happy Holidays to you as well.)

Wow that is so rude of him. He should understand that during the holidays you and your husband would like to spend time with your family. You are working hard every day through out the year and during this time, you guys need to relax and forget about your worries for a while. Generally, large businesses only close on Christmas day and on New Years so I'm guessing that's probably why he was upset but you did nothing wrong. You are running your own business and can take holidays whenever you please! And you are absolutely right, it's not like getting their stain glass window is an immediate emergency, if you were 911, THEN he would have a reason to complain. But don't feel bad, maybe he just had a bad day and happened to take his anger out on you (which is wrong.) Just enjoy your holiday with your husband and there is no need to feel guilty about it. =)

Yeah, I don't think a crack in stained glass is an emergency. I know what you mean. My husband and I have a telephone system sales, installation and service business. We're going to be closed the entire week of Christmas -- except for emergency service calls. One of our customers was a little put off. Don't care -- we work our butts off year round and deserve a break. We'll be available for emergencies, so it's not like we're cutting our customers off.

We provide excellent customer service, which is one reason we're successful. But one thing I've learned from being in business for 7 years is that the customer is not ALWAYS right.

More than likely , he has a deadline, but he shouldn't have waited till the last minute either. You always have to expect someplace is going to be closed for the holidays so get what you need to get done before the holidays begin.
People are ruthless sometimes.

That guy sounds like a real jackass - besides, who the hell is in a big rush to repair a staned glass window during Christmas week? Can't they wait til New Years?

Most companies do not close for an entire week! However, as you stated, your line of work isn't one that is of upmost importance to be open. You aren't a retail store so he should be understanding that he wants to spend time with his family for Christmas.
Merry Christmas, don't let him get to you

no matter how great of service you offer, for some people it will never be enough.....you could be open 23 hrs a day and this guy would be pissed and expect you to help him on the 24th hour of the day....don't take it personally, this guy is just a jerk-simple as that

Well, if you had stained glass in your front door, you might consider it an emergency.

Aaaaanyway, the person treated you quite rudely. You told him your hours (the facts) and he chose to abuse you. The energy would have been much better spent finding another business that might be able to help him in his time frame.

It sounds like he's under a deadline and is now not going to be able to meet that deadline. I'm sorry for him, but I think you have the right to close if you want.
