Hi, I got a called from collection agency saying that used my credit card to buy something for $700. It was a credit card that I lost many months ago. Somebody used it. They say that this credit card didn't go thru the next day, but they released the product to the individual when he used my credit card.
They called me and say that I am responsible of this debt, they say that the signature in their file signature it is mine and I bought it.. This is Wrong, I don't know what they talking about.
They have threatened me that they will do something against me.
Can they do SOMething to my credit or hurt my credit only with my name??? They only have my name. I am in Socal California.
What should I do? What are my rights??

Contact the credit card company and dispute the charges, you may only be responsible for a small portion of the unauthorized charges. In order to dispute unauthorized charges, you only have a short period of time, you should read your credit card agreement. You may want to file a police report also, that would help you to dispute the charge.

So long as you reported the credit card as lost or stolen, you should not be responsible for any charges made on it.

When you lost the credit card, did you notify your credit card company...or did you do nothing? When was this purchase made, and did you receive a statement (or more than one) with the purchase on there?
