I understand that you have to lose the fat over your abs before you can see them, however I am not fat and my stomach is flat, I just want to tone it up before June. I am about 5'8, weigh 135 lbs at night if you can imagine, so I am certainly not fat but I am not happy with how I look. I do 500 crunches (5 different kinds)almost every night. I have been doing this for almost a month now, I just wonder how long it will take for them to show up. Hopefully before bikini season!! :)

here's a secret: everybody has a six pack and you answered your own question - Yes you have to lose fat all over to see your abs.

If you can do 500 crunches - you should have a six pack

if you can't see it - you need to burn more flab and btw - 500 reps is way too much

If you're doing 500 reps it's time to change up exercises - look at my source below for lots of easy ab workouts

all the crunches in the world will not get you a flat stomach if you are not following a healthy, balanced diet. I am also suspect as to the quality of these 500 reps. I've been working out for 23 years and I can't do 500 "quality" crunches and I've got a six-pack.

you don't need to train your abs more than 2-3 times a week max. it takes up to 48 hours for those muscle to recover from the previous training session. if you want to decrease your body fat for Jun look into doing some circuit training that involves whole body workouts.

dude that won't do much except build endurance but only fractionally. You need to first off never work the same muscle group two days in a row. If you want strength lower the reps to the 6 - 10 range for 3 sets and up the weight till you almost can't finish the set. More importantly is your nutrition. You you way more than you need for a day of clean foods you will make massive gains (never having lifted intensely before your body will respond very quickly)without fat gain due to your high level of activity. when you go the gym, ask the experienced people to help critique your form and for some help on finding the right rep range. No one will make fun of how much you lift, we all were like that when we started.
