I think a lot of it is how their parents treated them...the things they said. Or maybe they were in an abusive relationship of some other kind. Also, it could be guilt from something that person has done. It's very hard to understand though..I struggle with it myself, and it's an ongoing battle even when I have such a loving and supportive husband.

When we see the scars from cutting we think there is self-hate Unlike the word self-hurt self-hate doesnt exist mentally. During a period of depression the brain made an imbalanced chemical allowing the lower or auto brain to intercept some messages to the upper brain. The auto brain runs things like breath and temperature and balance and we don't think about these as cognitive. This short period of psychosis has allowed a thought adjustment patch to be developed by the master cylinder to keep the world flat and it is reused in the same area of thought like sex . Each time a trigger is plucked there is pain and release . It looks dumb but it is very complex and tiring for the depressed person. There is an insult unto death but the same system also applies to killing oneself. The patch of logic correction is placed in use after psychosis and world is flat again to the mentally ill . But we see the error and wonder why it can be logically done.

Well, I'm biased as I've experienced self hatred at times, but let me try to explain...
I think that when certain people go through rough times, they look for a source to blame, instead of working through it, which is initially more difficult. "Why did this happen?" You can blame anything. It's easy. The world, god, or yourself. As they pile the blame onto themselves, they become their own enemy. Internal conflict=self-hatred.

This is a very one-dimensional way of looking at it, though. Of course, there are other factors, like how you were raised. If parents tell a child that's her/his fault for problems that aren't, and the child doesn't see what's going on, it's going to create a destructive pattern that will be very difficult to reverse later in life.

I hope my opinions helped. All the information is from my own life experience.

Simply put....it's hard *not to* hate yourself when you are living a life where it seems that all you ever deal with are a) people who hate you sight unseen, just for having any feelings, *at ALL*, b) a Society that seems out to screw you (or people like you) over, because you don't have enough money for them, or don't look "alpha male" enough for them, and c) everything, every interest or hobby or desire, that you ever liked or were interested in being slowly *ruined* or turned to crap.

Really. It's hard to live a positive life when little to nothing *in your life* ever works, turns out right, or *is* positive. It is hard to *not* think of yourself as a Nail when the rest of the world looks like it is out to crush you flat *on principle* like a Hammer.

I could give more specific examples from my own life, but...you caught me in a rare mood, more tired than ranty. Email me if you'd like to know more.

I like to think that as little babies we are all meant to love ourselves. And we do, we eat our toes and suck our thumbs and everything is all good. I think the reason have self-hatred is because as we get older outside influences (family, "friends", society) have told them they are not good enough.

the root cause must be : regrets . quilt, hopelessness , Fear , which is also the root of anger!

The Bible states That you should never ever despise yourself , no matter what ! a person that self destructs will not be helped from above .....if you love yourself only than you can love another., and than God will love you, after all how will it look to our soulmate that we are self destructive , after all we're are a part of them!

WE are all in this world together !

Your self-esteem develops when you are very young. How you are treated affects how that develops. All through your life things affect how you feel about yourself. It is very hard to re-train yourself to love yourself after being taught you are worthless.

I feel it's because they have a limited view of their own personal power and value and don't recognize themselves for the valuable potential that we are all born with.
