the reason I ask, because I own a Rotterman (father rotterweller, mother doberman) and I'm veery satisfied with her. I used to breed Dobermans some years back.

I own a Bichonpoo (Bichon Frise and Poodle) she is 5 months old today. She is the best dog that I ever owned. She is super smart and easily trainable. She is very mellow. Loves everyone and all other animals. Her health is excellent. She is really cute see her photo at left and on my 360. I can honestly say she is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I don't know why people dis designer dogs.

I hate them, seriously. Not the dogs themselves, but what they represent, and that is those who breed the dogs and those who purchase them. If you purchase one, you are just contributing to those who breed them. We do not need any more mutts in this world. They will never become new breeds. The Doberman is fine as is, and the Rottweiller is great just as is. Same goes for all other "designer dog" mutts.
Poodles are great. Labradors are great. Labradoodles are ridiculous. I do not even think they are all that cute!!!
They are just examples of their breeders/owners irnorance and false truths.

And to Nugirl:
There is NO such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. All dogs shed, therefore, all dogs have dander. Pillows can be hypoallergenic, but no animal can be. Except fish. If you want a dog, expect hair or fur. A poodle, for example, already has HAIR, NOT fur, so why do all these lying jerk breeders go and tell people that they have mixed the Poodle with another breed just to make a dog that sheds less? Making a dog mixed with a Poodle is flat-out deception.

Mixed breeds are awesome. You'll never see a dog exactly the same. Now, if you looked up, say, labradors, on google images, you'll get about a million dogs that look exactly the same. Plus mixies are great dogs and don't suffer the problems purebreds have.

On the designer dog question: I think it's bad how people are just breeding these and then making people pay a lot of money, just for the sake of profit. Some of the dogs aren't living in such great conditions. Plus some day, these kind of dogs will disappear from the face of the earth and some other dog will take their place as the major fad dog.

I have a problems with them when people put $1000 price tags on their mistakes.
There is nothing wrong with them but to pay thousands of dollars for something that is not now or will never be papered and nothing more than some poor humans accidential breeding is just stupid. If you want a dog for a companion get one from a shelter or humane society or rescue and save a life instead of buying an over priced dog who is supporting some un ethical breeder.

THere are nothing wrong with mixed breeds....but paying 500-1000 dollars for a dog that is not pure breed is insane....they are not pure breed dogs....there are many mixed dogs in the shelters that need homes.....Mixed breed dogs are great but don't get ripped off by those people trying to make huge amounts of money on cute names.....

Two words:
Expensive Mutts

I realize that some are bred with a purpose, like the Teddy Bear is supposed to be hypoallergenic. But let's face it, they're mutts, and charging (or paying for that matter) as much or more for a mutt than a pure-breed is crazy.

So long as the designer dog, aka not pure of breed, is not a dog that becomes costly, its all good. I don't think humans need to force dogs of different breeds to mate to create them, that happens by accident everyday.

I think it's a load of crap that back yard breeders and puppy mills have come up with to charge more money for a mutt. You want a mutt or mixed dog breed, go to the shelters and rescues and get them for way less money.

I think designer dogs are great dogs.

The thing I DONT like about them is that they sell for as much $$ as purebreds. This should NOT be the case. Designer breeds are not purebreds, they are still mixed. Unless they are classified as a purebred with the AKC, they are not purebreds and people are just getting cheated out of their money.

I think mixed breeds are fantastic! They're my absolute favorites.

But, when a breeder slaps a cutesy name on them and charges you $600, I call that a rip-off.

There are plenty of mixed breeds at the shelter you can make up cutesy names for and call "designer."
