I am in college and looking to get a job in law enforcement. I am very interested in the New Hampshire highway patrol. Is it the same as the troopers? What are the differences? Which one is better to apply to?

Talk to a NH trooper and ask him, if such a thing exsists. I will give you an example. In the state of Arkansas, they have both.
The Trooper is a police officer who enforces all the state laws, criminal, traffic, crashes..etc.
Arkansas also has the Highway Patrol. These officers are the state agency that enforces the Department of Transportation laws. Weigh stations, Over the road truckers..etc.
So you would need to consult the NH state police for the qualifications, their law enforcement powers, etc. Some states give DOT officers full police powers where some states limit their police powers.

Yes, they are the same, but two different titles. That would be Great to be a Trooper. Go for it , as it is a wonderful profession and one to be Proud of. But make sure you take special attention to the teachings of all the nasty you will be exposed to. GREAT and GO FOR IT !
