Nothing to worry about at all. All these doctors that put you under have been trained very well and know just the right amount to use for certain periods of time. I was under three months ago for a knee replacement and the doctor who put me under spoke with me prior and asked a lot of questions about my health in general and explained everything very good to me. I'm certain your's will also to help put your mind at rest. Good luck and do not worry.

Actually my wife is under general anesthesia as we speak, for a short 15-minute endoscopy. I'm going to leave in a few minutes to go pick her up.
It's not a big deal - you don't eat or drink for a number of hours beforehand. She's under for 15 mins, and then there's about 45 mins recovery. She can eat and drink normally afterwards, but shouldn't drive a car or anything the rest of the day.
And don't worry - they don't draw mustaches on your face with magic marker while you're out.
You'll be okay.

I had to go under recently for my wrist surgery. It was actually really nice. I got the IV (which was the most painful part) and then they just slipped me the drugs. Next thing I knew I was comfortably waking up in the recovery room. Not bad at all, you have nothing to worry about.

No, its not a big deal at all. Its like taking a nap, nothing more. You fall asleep, and you wake up a short time later in the recovery room.

general anesthesia is very safe these days. the main risks are if the patient has other co-existing medical problems. very sick people do have higher chances of copmlications. but by and large, for healthy people, it's very safe. for most people, the fear is based on a loss of control- we don't like it when we have to completely surrender ourselves to another person like that. it's just not a natural thing. and it's worse if we're control freaks, like many of us are (myself included). but rest assured that modern medicine has madethe delivery of anesthesia very safe.
