a) Connect the audio out of your TV to the AVR (AV Receiver)
Depending on the capabilities of your TV you may need to connect BOTH the analog audio out and the digital out (Coax or optical) to audio inputs in the AVR
(There are a lot of analog channels and the TV may not convert analog out to PCM)

b) Go to the TV's setup and specify that you want to enable audio out (which disables audio from the speakers)

It may also ask you how you prefer the audio out:PCM or Dolby Digital (DD). If your surround system has a DD Logo, pick DD, otherwise pick PCM.

Turn on both the TV and the AVR. Select on the AVR the input you used for your TV. You may need to use an analog audio input for analog channels and a digital input for Digital channels.

You have to find the "audio out" on the TV and connect it to "aux audio in" on the surround sound receiver. Then you switch the surround sound receiver to "aux", then the TV will play in surround sound.
