Accually I have a friend who dose have her dogs trained to use the litter box! She has a min-pin and a lab. On her deck she has a small swimming pool and the dogs use it just like cats do. It is not hard to train your dog to use a litter box but depending on the size of your dog, do you really want a litter box that big in your house!!

My dog IS litter box trained and for good reason. No not because I'm a lazy owner in fact I go through more trouble than if she were to be trained to go outside.
I had to train her because I live on the 11th floor and I experience very cold winters. She freezes in the winter to say the least. Because of this she never has to hold it in and she goes on her own schedule. She's a small dog which means small bladder. I have to clean the box out constantly throughout the day so it's nothing like having to clean a cats litterbox.
People should never train a dog to use the litterbox because they think it will be better. It really isn't! Anywhere I travel I have to lug the litter box. And since my dog doesn't feel comfortable going outside I've had instances where she'd come indoors from outside just to take a pee or a crap on the floor. And don't even get me started on the training! She was difficult and always created new problems.
Cats naturally bury their waste so using a litter box was a way to embrace this.
Edit: Poster above me, people can train cats to use toilets! :D

I know some people who have their small dogs litter trained. So let me ask you this why is a toilet just for humans?.lol But seriously you can pick up a puppy litter box at you local petco. I.m not to sure i would litter train a large doge. But a yorky or something in that size would be cool.

There are a lot of people, especially people who live in apartments with small dogs, that have them litter box trained.
I think that most of the time, its just because cats are not really outside pets, and they are very easy to train. Cats like to bury their waste, so when they find a spot they can do that, they will usually go back to that spot.....dogs however, need actaully trained, a lot like trainning them to go to outside and not in the house.....there are probly other reasons too.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone buy them, but we had small dog boxes at the pet supply store where I worked in college. They were larger than a cat box, but still about the size for a dog about the size of a Shih Tzu or Chihuahua. We even had a pellet-type filler for them.

I think small dogs can get litter box trained (Chihuahua size) but would you really WANT a litter box that could accommodate a 75lb dog? GROSS!

because dogs do not usually dig before they go, and then cover it up. Apparently, they have no qualms about leaving it in plain sight. Cats on the other hand, would be a little put out if they had to do that. They are a little more snobbish than dogs, but not in a bad way.

very worry-unfastened habit for a canines. confident, to us that's disgusting, yet to a canines that's a cope with. The cat poop is great and stinky and easily does nonetheless have some nutrition left in it. Your appropriate guess is to get a coated muddle container, or placed it up out of the canines attain.
