If people can say "marry christmas" or "happy holidays"

I think its a red herring created by the rabid right to boost talk show ratings and divert people's attention away from issues that actually matter.

Corporate America and gluttonous consumerism destroyed any real significance in Christmas long ago. If you think I'm wrong, go compare the number people willing to wait overnight for a church service against the number of people lined up for Black Friday or the off chance that a shipment of Nintendos will make their way to a Best Buy.

War on Christmas, what a joke.

Some groups have discouraged shopping at stores that use all inclusive terms such as Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas or call Christmas trees, Holiday trees, they have missed the mark. Businesses will do whatever is best for their bottom line.

The War on Christmas does exist. It is happening in schools, government and public property. It is not inclusiveness that is the problem.

Most Christians would have no problem with Menorahs or the symbols of Kwannza being displayed. This is a free country and the constitution does not allow the (federal) government to establish an official state religion.

The problem is that when government displays religious symbols of minority religions, the religious symbols of Christmas (The Creche and the Nativity) are nearly always excluded.

When those Christian symbols are included the ACLU is quick to step in and demand that the Christian Symbols be removed in the name of Seperation of Church and state.

The problem is that the War isn't about Christmas; it is a War on Christianity. Headed by groups like The ACLU and Americans United for the Seperation of Church and State.

The School and Government officials are generally not the problem either. In fact they are often victims of Coercion by the ACLU which uses threats of expensive lawsuits and high Attorney's fees to get those officials to comply with the ACLU's demands.

A good Example is the War Memorial in San Diego. The Memorial is a Cross and the ACLU is demanding that the Memorial be removed because the City of San Diego is violating the establishment Clause by allowing the Cross to remain.

The origins of Christmas are actually from the pagan Yule festival, but Christianity has taken over the holiday as their own so they feel morally obligated to press their views onto all people (like any other time and place specifically in America).

It's doesn't matter if you say "Merry Christmas" "Happy Holidays" "Merry Yuletide" "Happy Chanukah" or "Happy Kwanza" because it is the sentiment of goodwill behind the message that folks should be thankful for not the wording that is used.

So HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all of you this Season!

I think it's pointless. If you celebrate it, say Merry Christmas. If you don't celebrate it, then say Happy Hanukah. If you don't celebrate either of those, but some other strange middle eastern holiday, then too bad. Nobody has the time nor patience to look up your strange foreign holiday.

I think it's stupid. It's been "Merry Christmas" for centuries. There is no need or reason to change it.
