I just moved to Los Angeles recently, and this place is full of seafood! Where I am from in Minnesota all we have is lake fish, which I DO NOT like the taste of. I have heard that certain fish taste like regular meat when it is fresh, and I am wondering if anyone knows of a few good fish that I might like?

Steak.

Just kidding - swordfish, and tuna are both meatier fish that don't have a strong fishy taste. If you get tuna, if it tastes fishy, it's old. Look specifically for a tuna steak.

If you're cooking at home, try soaking the fish in milk for a few hours or overnight, which will get rid of any fishy taste. This also works with lake fish, to remove the 'muddy' taste.

Tilapia is a very bland fish. Orange roughy, and cod are other ideas.

Of course, the more you broaden your palate, the more you'll get used to the taste, and even come to enjoy it.

no fresh fish should have a really fishy taste, but some are stronger than others. If you are not a huge fish fan, you might want to stick with cold water white fish like cod or scrod. tillapia is another mild white fish. As another rule of thumb, if the fish eats other fish (for instance, shark) then it may have a stronger flavor than a fish that eats plankton or kelp.

Swordfish, in my opinion, is the least fishy tasting fish. I like it, and it has the texture of a porkchop. The best way to cook them is wrapped in foil and baked. I add butter and red onion. Good luck in your search.

I don't like fishy fish either. My favorites are: Halibut, Mahi Mahi, Orange Roughy and Tilapia.

Tilapia, halibut, and mahi mahi are all very mild tasting. Personally, I don't think there's a fish that tastes like flesh (the texture's completely wrong).

put the fish in milk for an hour or two and it wont taste fishy.adds much to the taste of the fish.don't eat so much of the larger fish such as swordfish and sharks,as they have Mercury and other bad things in them. eat the medium size to small types of fish.

Fish has to be fresh, and if it becomes unpleasant in smell and taste,it is unsafe to eat.Fish has more smell than meat, and apart from that,if your worried, the only less smelling fish would be Salmon or tuna. But it still needs to be fresh.

I don't know how common it is on the west coast but swordfish has a meaty testure and a sweet delicious flavor. Try scallops or sock-eye Salmon too. I'm sure you can find that. Enjoy!

Try halibut or cod, both are mild-tasting white fish. They are especially tasty with a little lemon, salt and pepper.
