No, a white rose is a sign of friendship. a black rose is a sign of death. Of course, if you're asking about them growing in an area, then any flower may signify there is someone or something buried there.

In Victorian times, in times of mourning, it was considered wrong to use a centerpiece or decorate a home in bright colored roses or any other flowers. White roses were considered acceptable. On mother's day, it is still a tradition to wear a white flower or corsage if one's mother has passed away and flowers of any other color if one's mother is still alive.
That tradition does not suggest that white roses are a "sign of death." White roses at weddings and christenings are very appropriate. They are lovely.

I would consider white roses as a sign of virginity as is the white wedding gown (wishful thinking :)).

White is for purity, but they are quite appropriate to give to someone in mourning. Just a suggestion, perhaps give a nice plant instead?? I don't know about you, but I never feel right giving someone that is grieving flowers that are going to wilt and die.......it's like reminding them in a way (maybe thats just me, but........)
