Hard to grasp the question, but let me see if I can answer this. You were fighting the things in you that you hated. But instead of you winning, the other you won? Getting close? If so, this is what I think.
You can defeat those thoughts by waking up and doing little things to change your thinking. If you don't want to go somewhere, than go to that place and if you are scared to say something, just say it. In life the very things we need to do are to face our self defeating attitudes. For example, I used to believe that as a woman I couldn't be as sucessful as a man. I felt it in my heart, I drown in that fear for so long that it was me. One day I woke up and said, heck with this, and I finally realized I would do it with or without anyone's approval or money. I did what I needed to do to make myself change and that night I had the best dream of my life.
I guess we all fear things within ourselves, but facing those fears makes us change, forces the fear into the light.
Fight that fear, you are the winner, every single time.
:)

You never will, compleatly, not in this life. But you can controle.... that is easier with God's help. That is a battle every one fights... Those of The True Christian Faith are no different.... and for some it is a mighty battle indeed... When there is an honerable and right goal ahead it make the struggle easier because you know you are fighting for what is right... not just yourself...but for many others who need also to have the strength to continue...and when you are of TheFaith you know you have God...and you have the support of all others of The Faith as well
If you have any question concerning the basics of The True Christian Faith you may email me. one honest question receives on honest answer to the best of my ability.

Here's a thought: That part of you is in some way trying to take care of you. Ask yourself how it could (in perhaps an irrational way, this was a dream, after all) be of some benefit to you to think those self-defeating thoughts. Consider asking the question, "Even if..." such as, "Even if I have a desire to quit my job without having another one to go to, what would it mean to have such a wish?"
Every character in a dream is you, and we generally don't do things or think things that aren't in some way meant to provide for ourselves or protect ourselves.
Good luck with this self-exploration.

You start by visualizing yourself in a battle with this other you and defeating this thing while you are awake, then tell yourself before you go to sleep that you will dream that scenario. This is called lucid dreaming, and you need to be able to tell yourself while you're dreaming, that you are in fact dreaming, and awaken enough to be able to control the outcome.

If you're fighting yourself, you're automatically the winner and the looser. From your statement, I'd guess that you're a looser.

This could have meant your spirit is at battle with your flesh, fasting and prayer should help you, fasting kills the flesh...
