I'm a type one diabetic and an auto mechanic. I can't wear a bracelet or neck chain when working on cars so I tattooed the medical alert symbol and problem on my wrist. Has anyone seen anything like this? Most health care people I've met have never seen any thing like it.

i think that is a cool idea. it could definitely end up saving your life. my husband is a paramedic i'll ask him if he has ever seen a medic alert tattoo. i never realized how dangerous diabetes could be until i met some people who have it and had some episodes. i hope you take good care of yourself. and who knows... your tattoo may grow on you and you may get one that is not medically necessary. i love my tattoos.

I've never seen it, but have heard of it and considered getting it done myself. I've been wearing my bracelet for 20 years (since I was 4), and will have to wear it for the rest of my life. The only thing that's been stopping me is because I don't think that medical professionals would think to look for the tattoo. Although, I guess if its on your wrist its pretty easy for them to notice....

I've heard of it before, just never seen one. My little brother is Type 1 and he keeps accidently breaking his medical alter jewlery so mom agreed when he got older he would get the medical alert symbol. I think its a smart thing to do.

Kudos to you...this may save your life someday. Some people are mistaken for drunks while in a diabetic reaction....maybe this will help prevent this! I have a good friend who is a nurse that had DNR tattooed on her chest to keep someone from doing CPR is she is dying. Not everyone will search your billfold or purse for that kind of information. Great ideal for people in your circumstances!

do no longer placed E45 or Vaseline on it-which will do everlasting injury to it! Use training H cream (its for piles yet have faith me in this!!),my tattoo guy swears by utilising it & so do many tattooists! Smear some on basically before you pass to mattress and then wash off interior the morning with heat soapy water.something of the day do exactly what you have been doing!

That's a really great idea regardless of whether you were a mechanic or not because otherwise, you're counting on the fact that you won't lose your bracelet.

That is so cool. I have to wear a braclet thing that is metal and shaped like a dog tag with the red cross symbol on one side and my allergy/problems on the other side

That is a good idea. I think everyone should have something tattooed on for medical reasons.

That is an awesome idea! At least you know if something happens, you didn't forget to wear your bracelet! I don't like tats either, but in this case, it is very cool.
