At what age can a male dog get a female pregnant? I have a male and female basset and i was wondering how long i have before he is able to get her pregnant.how long do i have before i have to worry about puppies? He is 5 months now. can i wait to get her fixed?

It is possible that he couuld get her pregnant now if she goes into heat and lets him breed with her.
Get her fixed now or you risk her having pups.

Get her fixed. I'm not sure if the female is a puppy too? But if you have no plans to breed, and she is 6 -8 months old get her fixed. Once you fix the mal they can still get them pregnant for a few weeks. and the same for the male ,so now would be a good time.

She can get pregnant off her first heat which could happen around 6 to 8 months. She is not to young to be fixed and neither is he if that is your goal.

Most of the time you can wait until the testicles descend...where you can see them when hes walking around. Most people get them neutered around 6 mo anyways... I had my puppy done at 3 mo because he had some aggression issues.

the femal is usually the second time she goes in heat and the male just really whenever the female is ready (or about a year old)!!!

Get him fixed now. Most shelters will spay/neuter at 2mo/2lbs. Its perfectly safe to do. As he goes through doggie puberty his hormones are going to start kicking in and he is going to develop the behavoirs you don't want in him, and once he has learned those behavoirs he will continue to do them wether or not the hormones are telling him to, out of habit.
Also, fixing your animals greatly decreases the risk of certain cancers.
