Get her things that can be frozen (like frozen vegetables and meats) as they last a long time, and grains like rice and noodles, since their easy to make meals out of and very filling.

Be careful. The elderly have many health issues. Consider high blood pressure and diabetes. Watch for sodium and high glucose. If you're going to buy her canned goods, buy her low sodium. If you're going to buy her rice and pasta, buy wild rice and whole grain pasta. Also, some elderly have swallowing issues so keep that in mind as well. Creamy soups over just brothy soups go down better. If you're buying her crackers, again, watch for the sodium level. You don't want to put her in the hospical with congestive heart failure or a hypertensive crises. Also, see if your local pharmacy has gift cards. Sometimes these elderly folks have to choose between food and medication. Another thing to do would be to go to try to get a look at her medications, call the pharmacy and get the name of the pharmaceutical company that makes that drug. Then go on online to rxassist. com or .org (not sure) and download an application for her for assistance. All her doctor has to do is write the order for the medication and fill out the form, mail it in and she may be elible to get 3months of medication for free. Steer away from citrus. Many medications react with, believe it or not, grapefruit. Your heart is in the right place. I pray that God blesses you abundantly for this.

First of all, get a variety of foods that are healthy and nutritious.
Second, get foods that will store for a long time, in case she can't use all of it right away. Pasta is good, and also canned goods.
Third, see if you know anything about her likes and dislikes.
And it might not hurt to include a special treat.

I think this sounds like a wonderful gift.

Elderly people do not often eat properly. So get some things like peanut butter & jelly
crackers
fruit juice
some chocolates
teas or coffees
some cookies
find out what this person likes if possible. Good luck and God bless****

If she's elderly, get her things that are simply to make. Canned goods, bread, butter, jelly, eggs, milk, and something sweet for her to snack on. Along with it, write her a letter. She's sure to love it and God Bless you for being so kind-hearted

I like ricks answer best. In addition to his gift card idea, I was thinking a gift card to CVS or Walgreens might be nice because a lot of older people have a hard time paying for their meds.

Healthy food, pears, banana and cheese and crackers, some cereal and milk and tea food that is easy to prepare. You can put it in a basket and decorate it.

If she is alone, you may want to buy her some frozen items (along with the other items). That way they will not go bad in a week or so and she can heat small portions for herself.

Frozen and canned goods are good. Pantry items are good too.
Maybe bake her a large meatloaf, something she can heat and eat on for a couple of days.

God bless you for thinking of others.

Merry Christmas

Everyday useful stuff that will last like canned goods, rice, pasta, bread. In addition, you could get her a gift card from her local store (not yours. b/c you never know).
