Riunite Lambrusco is a good one. It's a light red and quite sweet. You would probably also like a white merlot or white zinfandel. Those are my favorites. Serious wine drinkers will be grossed out, but if you're new to wine you want something inexpensive and not too dry or you won't like it. Stay away from anything under $4.50 a bottle. You will just get a headache.

Well, typically red wines aren't too sweet, unless you're talking about a fortified wine like Port which I love and is a great dessert wine. Prices for Port will range from about $7-$50. You can find very nice Ports for as little as $10-12. If you have a Trader Joe's near by, give them a try and ask someone from the wine department for help. They usually are pretty knowledgeable.

I took a second and found a little info page on various wines -- pretty basic stuff but sounds like it might be just what you're looking for. :)

Get a really good Port it's really sweet and not too dry. Merlot is OK but I find it to be really dry. Not something for a new wine drinker

dolcetto and zinfandel port are the only "sweet" red that comes to mind. Merlot is not sweet at all. For something that is more fruity than sweet try a gamay beaujolais. but it is kind of late in the year for that, they come out at thanksgiving time.

Merlot. That's my personal choice.

Ask the staff at your local L.C.B.O. They'll be able to help as well.
