I am amazed at the ignorance of the questioner and many of the answerers.
I don't know of any clergy that weilds power over their congregation. Not one.
Most clergy I know barely get by with the pay they receive, and most have to get "real" jobs as well as perform their ministry.
Power? Most congregants don't even bother with what the Pastor teaches. This is because there are so many unregenerate people sitting in the pews. they sit in church with their church mask on, then go home and beat the wife, kick the dog, and yell at the kids.
What world are you all living in? Do you even know people of faith? Or is your understanding of people of faith coming from television?

The first point is whom will this religion worship? Multitude of inhabitants of the earth would not get in one accord over this issue.
Second, if the reason for such world movement is for people to be benevolent, merciful, charitable apolitical and non-warring, - well that also could be achieved without religion. Some non-religious people are having those characteristics and yet they are inspired with various forms of selfishness to achive that; self-respect (in selfish form) or praise of others are just some of them.
How many people on the earth have really come to that point of being void of their ego? Very few. And how do you achive that?
The only way is to have restored the image of God in
you. Christ in you. Because only Christ has power to overcome the fallen human nature and create a new life in humans. Then he can dwell with them and make with His presence out of their assemblies a church.
God has a church. It is not the great cathedral, neither is it the national establishment, neither is it the various denominations; it is the people who love God and keep His commandments.
"Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matt. 18:20). Where Christ is even among the humble few, this is Christ's church, for the presence of the High and Holy One who inhabiteth eternity can alone constitute a church.

Not again , we all must be the same, there better not be any that have more, or have more intelligence then others. It has been tried as Communism and failed, if you have not heard. That rebellion only works until the ones that rebell get in power, and then the same cycle starts. It is jealousy and envy that fuels such ideas. When the religion and clergy have been gotten out of the way, the masses should worship the new Dictator, I suppose,is that the"new"plan ? Humanity is unified in God, we are made in His image, In Jesus Christ we are all united. The Holy Spirit guides and teaches us..

Because people are people. Religion is a good way to lead people to a particular way of thinking, and people who like power are attracted by that. Those kinds of people are also very into earning money, so they do their best to find high places in the religious hierarchy and hold on to them.

Sounds like a nice place. Everything you say is true. Trouble is, man is self serving by nature and a consensus for unity and widespread change, I fear, is beyond the realm of possibility.

You'd have a scisim after about thirty seconds, then a reformation in an hour, a new revelation after that, and a holy war after a month. Religion is about control, power, and greed.

Well, we ARE told to expect this, and will see it grow as a replacement for God.
Everything we have and do, is tainted by corruption. Chaos is the rule, not order. (2nd law of TD)
