Keep away from the junk, eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, drink 1 1/2 liter of water everyday and cut out the products containing saturated fat such as meat and dairy products.
Don't make the parties excuse on snacking junk..at every party one can find healthy options to snack on.

It's important to understand that the rules for low and high carb diets differ dramatically. In a low carb diet your insulin is suppresed and glucagon is up. This prevents your body from storing fat in several ways. It can be an effective diet if you don't cheat on the carbs (most people actually do).
The normal diet is high in carbs and you must keep your fat under 30% of calories (not size - since fat has 2-3 times the calories that it's size appears compared to carbs) The reason is that you body is high in insulin and low in gluagon, which prevents you from using fats and makes you store them instead. On this type of diet you only use the fats during a fast of more than 3-4 hours on this type of diet because, at other times, your body is using what's being absorbed from your gut and carbs stored as glycogen. That means at night (the time of fat burning is reduce if you tend to eat late so you need to keep the percentage down on the lower end - 20%). Exercise is important on this diet because it promotes fat use. What happens to people coming off the low carb diet onto a high carb diet is that they bring their favorite fats with them. That ensures they will gain back everything they lost.
On the other hand, it's not good to eat two few fats. There are actually fat receptors in you intestine that promote satiety. Those who eat less than 20% of calories as fats usually eat more for lack of continued satiety, and so they gain weight too.
Very young children (under 3-4) need more fats - 40% - because their brains are growing and brains are mostly fat. In fact some people think that the rise in autism and other brain disorders was caused by over zealous anti-fat campaigns on TV and in schools (that's what happens when you have the coach teach nutrition - FATS=BAD=ELIMINATE)

I lost a lot of weight low carbing (Atkins) last year myself...but you have to be very careful what you eat afterward. DO monitor your calorie intake and DO exercise regularly and you should be okay...if you see the scales go up a pound or two, then just get more strict for a week or so until those pounds are gone...if you take care of add'l weight as you see it arrive, instead of waiting until you've gained 10 lbs or so, then you'll have a better chance of keeping ahead of it and keeping your weight where you want it.

I disagree with the folks who say you need a certain amount (minimum of 40 or whatever) carbs per day for metabolism. Carbs are not mandatory for our health, metabolism, or anything else. They are used for fuel only. Fats and proteins ARE necessary and must be ingested.
I eat a zero-carb diet except before strenuous workouts, when I add appropriate amounts of carbs to get through the workout (2 miles swimming, 15 miles running). On a day-to-day basis, for normal activity, you do not need ANY carbs, and in fact your body is better off without them because they spike your insulin levels and can set up a situation where your appetite is increased because of fluctuating insulin levels.
I say go as low as you can go in carbs and stick with it. You can eat as much as you want of animal products, including eggs, so you won't go hungry. I've been eating this way for years. Get out of the mindset that carbs are "necessary" for life. They are not. I'm living proof of that. 15 years on zero-carb, and I feel and look fantastic. I'm in great physical condition. The theory of fiber improving G.I. health has been debunked. There is no nutrient that you can get from plant foods that you can't get from animal foods. Animal foods are complete foods, whereas plant foods are not.
Carbs are completely unnecessary for good health.

I practice bariatrics (weight loss) for living, so here are a couple of things to remember:
-your body needs ~50-75 g of carbs/day at least to give your metabolism enough energy to burn calories. Most of those carbs should come from fruits and vegies or fiber-high carbs.
-use a lot of protein in am to speed up your metabolism for the rest of the day.
-avoid any drinks w/ sugar, stick to water, diet tea and such.
-you have to exercise.
-when you eat junk foods, jew slowly.
Hope it helps. Good luck

there is a huge difference between losing "weight" and losing body fat. there are no effective methods of losing body fat rapidly with out significant lose of lean body mass.
fad diets typically cause the user to lose nothing more than water weight from a decrease in muscle glycogen stores along with some lean body mass. it is very easy and very likely that the user has a higher body fat percentage at the end of a fad diet then before. while they may have decreased their "scale" weight technically they have gotten fatter due to a loss of lean body mass.
this is why most people rebound to a higher body weight when coming off of these types of diets. they return to their normal eating habits and they have even less muscle than they started with.

The body burns carbs first, then fat, so a low carb diet is better, because your body will go straight to burning off the fat. However, you should still keep your fat intake low as weel, and eat plenty of protein

Do your grocery shopping with a list and a moment limit; that way, you're more unlikely that to stray into the highly processed foods section.
