Be responsible. Be patient. Be persistent (but don't nag). Be educated.

The big reason that a lot of moms don't want to get their kids a dog is because they know their kid won't do the dirty work of taking care of it. Moms frequently get stuck walking the dog, feeding the dog, bathing the dog, and doing all the rest of the work for the dog while the kids sit on the couch watching TV or whatever. If you can prove to her that you'll take care of the dog, and you educate yourself on what kind of dog will fit your lifestyle and personality, then she's more likely to say yes.

http://www.akc.org/breeds/complete_breed_list.cfm has a lot of information about what dog will suit you best and what they need. But don't think you have to go to a breeder and shell out big bucks - there's plenty of dogs in shelters or in the homes of people who for one reason or another can't keep them which you can get for little or no money and who would love to come to a loving home like yours.

If you adopt an older dog- an adult, you won't have the trauma of potty training, chewing, puppy teeth scars...
a mellow older (aww, Mom... he needs us.. (batt your eyes)
dog would be an easier sell and a better companion. Puppies are highly over rated.

Dont get a puppy just because you think they are cute. They are time consuming, you have to housebreak, groom (depending on the breed), feed them, as well as spend time with them. All puppies are cute, then they grow up.

tell her somthing like 'I'll always take care of it I wont let it bug you i'll clean up after it and every thing' or 'I don't want ANYTHING else for christmas but a puppy' and if those don't work try doing extra chores and somthing like that to show her that you can handle the responsability of a puppy

Why don't you ask her if you could adopt a puppy from an animal shelter, you know, like a trial basis.

Just bring it home one day. It's difficult to resist a puppy.

Never, EVER, use the phrase, "Awww... but MOOoooooom!"

If you do, you're not mature enough for a pup :P

Good luck :)
