I read the following article a few minutes ago:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061221/us_nm/immigration_raids_dc

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the statements comparing the raids on illegal immigrants in the workplace to Hitler's roundup of the Jews in the 1930s.

Newsflash: These raids are not for "no reason" as Democratic Party activist Carla Vela said. They are because these people are in violation of our immigration laws.

What the heck keeps these people from understanding that it is illegal for them to enter and work in this country without a work visa, that they are in violation of the law if they do so, and are subject to being deported if they are caught?

Maybe because, where they come from, there are no laws and so, they don't believe any exist here either. They must think that the word 'freedom' in this country means 'free-for-all' without having to abide by our laws; that they're exempt from them in this country because they have none where they are from. It's also the liberals nonchalantly turning their backs and ignoring the flood of illegals coming in. This country needs to plug up those loopholes and get with the program: Send them all back!!

Agreed that comparison to Nazi Germany is too extreme.

I think what they are protesting is that they are rounding up sort of a grab bag of Latinos, some legal and others not on the basis of maybe being illegal. I agree that that is uncalled for and wrong. We should not be arresting a whole group of people (citizens and non citizens) simply because they are all latinos and we are looking for illegal ones.

I think illegals do understand that they are in danger of being deported. I think it is a fear that they constantly have. But they see the benefits as outweighing the risks.

The benefits of getting work and supporting themselves and being able to send money home as the most important thing.

They risk a lot by coming here, its not a joy ride. Many people die crossing, they getting ripped off by coyotes, they don't see their families for months or years but they still come; that is how badly they want to be here.

Responses to others:
Enforcing the border 100% would be impossible and too much a of a drain on the economy to do> Also there is the added economic pressure of preventing workers from entering the country that are necessary to the economy.

Many do speak English, many don't. Many pay taxes as well.

I_love_to_write_stooreez you have got to be kidding. Other countries have laws, have you never been outside the US?

Increasing convictions would hardly have a deterrence, any remember how hard perhaps your ancestors worked to get here?

As long as there are economic opportunities, as in jobs that Americans will no longer take when the work has to be done, we will have immigrants legal and illegal.

They do understand, but as long as the American companies hire them they will continue to stay and come here. Also, immigrants are needed now just as they were in the 30's, 40's, 50's well you get the point. Americans are not willing to do the work that these people do. I don't want to work in the fields for minimum wage, or hard construction for nothing, or cook some asshole's meal. Yesterday it was the Irish and Chinese, today Mexican and Central Americans tomorrow who knows?

Think about it this way, why do people drink and drive? Why do people cheat/steal, do anything when they know it is illegal. Think about how much houses or a meal at Outback will cost if we replace immigrants with whiny *** lazy Americans? I am American but I can tell you that we need these people. My parents were immigrants and yes they came here legally but sometimes it is just easier to cross the border than to deal with a corrupt country.

Illegal aliens are extremely ignorant people, they do not care about this country. They are here for money and to reconquer the United States. Most have no ambition to learn English or integrate into the United States. It shows in every "civil riot" when they display mexican flags and chant in Spanish. The only chance they have to integrate is if there children will hopefully stay in a goverment school to pick up english and job skills at the taxpayers expense. Honestly who do these Illegals think there kidding "i'm just here for a better life" what a joke.

Remember it was illegal to be a Jew in the 3rd Reich. Change the law. Make Mexico the 51st,52nd,53rd,54th...state. Then they will not be illegal
Mexico had all of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, California, until a corrupt dictator sold it to us for 15 mil and the people got it in the *** again. He kept it all for himself. Tell your story to the people who hire them. So we can have strawberries and lettuce for $1.39 a pint or head respectively. So many pay Social Security and will never collect. That in itself is theft on our part---Again.
If they were mostly white and spoke english would they be such a problem. Blame our government for not funding more patrols. Oh yeah. I forgot they are all in Iraq. Whose gonna bus your table? A schmooglie? Do you want gjiz all over your hotel sheets because there is no one but an immigrant who is willing to work for the low hotel wages. And by the way most immigrants learn english. This is America. Speak any language you want. Last time I checked we were a semi- free nation.

Oh they know, they know.

But in making an "illegal immigration issue" into a "immigration issue" or racism issue or human rights issue, they are hoping that the fact that they breal many laws will not be seen.

They say they are law abiding citizens? well they break the following laws

1) immigration laws when they enter the country illegally, or overstay their visitor visa and stay illegally

2) work illegally, by either working for cash or by using fake ids

3) if they work for cash they are breaking tax laws as well

4) if they use fake ids they are commiting identity fraud as well

So, once again...these are law abiding people? give me a break.

and the whole idiotic argument of reaking families is nonsensical.

I mean you broke the law, you came to this country illegally and u had kids here, which btw you went to the ER so tax payers paid for your expenses, and now you are claiming tat deporting you will break up your family? hey take the kid with you.

We need to be more like countries where only children of legal immigrants and citizens get citizenship.

The US has turned a blind eye for too long. These laws should have been enforced starting about 20 years ago. They weren't.
Imagine:
You wake up one morning and see there are 5 Mexicans camped out in your yard. You go out and tell them that they are trespassing, but since they're here you want them to do some landscaping work in your yard. You have them work for 5 years, then you call the police and have them arrested for trespassing. Do you think that is right? That is what the United States is doing. They've ignored and used these people for years and now say we should do something about them.

Don't get me wrong. I agree, immigration law should be enforced. We should no longer allow people to come across illegally. But, be patient with the people who are here, realizing that most came when the laws weren't being enforced.

With the congress pardoning all of them every 7 years for illegal behavior, they have learned to violate the law and wait for the next general amnesty. It sets a bad pattern and needs to be stopped.

You are correct in your outrage at the misrepresentation and outlandish analogy!
But take heart, and never lose sight...
You are dealing with immoral, illegal invading criminal aliens.
To defend their vile criminality and defend lame excuses, they resort to distortion and outright lies and name calling...common speak for such criminals, (see liberal politicians).
Carla Vela is the Cynthia McKinney of liberal arrogance and stupidity! Sorry for the Georgia reference!

I believe most of the illegal immigrants know full well that they are illegal. That being said, did any of you choose your country of birth? If you were born in a country like Mexico with no hope of a future, wouldn't you do whatever you had to for a chance at a better life. You have no choice where you were born but you do have a choice as to where you want to live. Not that i fully support illegal immigrants but I do see why they do what they do. Wouldn't you/
