the silliest things I have heard about Mormons are the crazy lies I hear here on yahoo answers. There are so many confused people out there, spreading lies. do we go around spreading rumors about baptists and Jehovah's Witnesses? I don't think so, so why do people pick on us? Is everyone jealous of our church? I think jealousy, fear and ignorance play a big part

Sorry these are myths that Mormons believe.

1. That they can become Gods by performing works on earth.
2. The whole polygamy deal.
3. The racism in-sighted on the early Mormon Church, I believe it
is the Doctrine of the Pearl of Great Price.
4. Believing the KJV of the bible is the only authorized version
and then saying, we don't even know if it is true/infallible
5. More faith in Joseph Smith to interpret the Book of Abraham,
which is actually a Egyptian book of the dead, yet they don't
believe God can correctly relay His word through the years.
6. Joseph Smith had a supposed revelation from God, but he
he had to ask his dad to interpret it for him.
7. They claim Indians are their Jewish ancestors, yet DNA
testing proves the Indians have no link with Jewish DNA, but
rather from the Asia district.
8. They pray to Moroni, rather than God to show them the
burning in the bosom.
9. They take one verse James 1:5 completely out of context and
establish it as the foundation to their entire religion.
10. Joseph Smith, the crystal reader, was right and everyone
else was wrong when it came to religion.
11. Magical glasses.
12. Two year mandatory missionary trips that a supposed
prophet selects for you from a hat, luck of the draw, sorry
Tommy, your going to Siberia.

I live in Utah and my entire family is Mormon (I'm actually Wiccan), so I've had a lot of experience with the Mormon faith. Let's play Mormon Mythbusters, shall we?

Myth: Mormons have horns.

False! Of course. Rub a Mormon's head and see. But ask them first.

Myth: Mormons have "magical underwear."

True...sort of. Before a Mormon goes through the temple for the first time they get a set of underclothes called "garments." This is very conservative "underwear," for lack of a better word. It's purpose is to quietly enforce the code of modesty in dress that Mormons live by (the underwear has sleeves and legs that makes wearing immodest clothing impossible).

Myth: Mormons believe that drinking Coke and coffee (or anything with caffeine) is a sin.

True...sort of. Drinking a beverage with caffeine isn't a "sin," but it is discouraged. This is because drinking a caffeinated beverage is against the Word of Wisdom that Joseph Smith released to the members of the church after receiving instruction in a vision. This Word of Wisdom promotes a balanced lifestyle with a healthy diet, exercise, white cutting caffeine, cigarettes, and liquor out. However, the subject of drinking caffeinated sodas is actually debatable: some Mormons will tell you it's ok, while some are strictly against it.

Myth: Mormons worship Mormon (hence the nickname).

False! Mormons are called Mormons because of the Book of Mormon that is unique to their faith. This is a book that was written by several prophets (like the Bible), and is called "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." Mormon was actually a prophet that wrote one of the last books in the Book of Mormon, but Mormons don't worship him. They strictly worship Heavenly Father. Which brings us to our next myth....

Myth: Don't Mormons worship Jesus Christ?

False! Mormons live by His example, follow his teachings, and love Him dearly, but they don't worship him. In prayer, Mormons pray to Heavenly Father "in the name of Jesus Christ." Which brings us to yet another myth...how convenient.

Myth: Mormons aren't Christians.

False false FALSE! Mormons are very much Christians. Jesus Christ is sometimes called the "keystone" of the of the Mormon faith, and can definately be described as the figurehead of the religion.

Myth: the Mormon faith is called the Mormon faith.

False! The term "Mormon" is simply again, a nickname. The actual term for the faith is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." Another nickname for a Mormon person is "LDS" (Latter Day Saint).

Well, that was really long-winded, but I hope it was informative.

I think pretty much everything I've ever heard about Mormons sounds silly. It's a fake religion masquerading as Christianity.

I heard that they wear homemade cotton underwear under all of their clothes; I heard they are polygamists; I heard they think drinking coffee and coke is a sin and that American Indians are direct descendants of the Apostles. That's the craziest bunch of rubbish I've ever heard!

Fallchild was incorrect about one more thing...sorry...

Don't mormons worship Jesus Christ?
Yes, we recognize him as our Lord and Savior. We know that it is through him only that we can return to our Heavenly Father.
We do pray to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe when worshipping one, we are worshipping both, for they are "one" in purpose.

I'm jealous of them for one reason. They can have all the wives they can afford and i'm stuck with just one and thats not fair. I think if a man of one religion is allowed a bunch of women then the other religions should allow their men the same privileges

When I was told what Mormon was I thought I was being lied to because it all sounded so silly, but my Mormon grandfather said it was true when I asked him.
